Spis Castle: One of Central Europe&amp;rsquo;s Largest Castle Complexes Spissky hrad, known in English as Spis Castle, sits on a travertine hill above the town of Spisske Podhradie in eastern Slovakia, the Presov region. It is one of the largest castle complexes in Central Europe by area, covering more than 4 hectares, and it is genuinely a ruin, Romanesque and Gothic in origin, first mentioned in writing in 1113 and built up through the 12th to 14th centuries.</description>
