Day 1: Get Your Bearings in Sultanahmet

Day 2: Princes’ Islands, No Tour Required
The Sehir Hatlari public ferry from Kabatas to Buyukada, 75-100 minutes each way for roughly 135-140 TRY, lands you on a car-free island best explored by rented bike.
Day 3: Cross the Bosphorus for the Price of a Bus Fare
A commuter ferry to Kadikoy or Uskudar, 15-20 minutes for roughly 35-49 TRY, does most of the job a paid Bosphorus tour charges far more for.
Day 4: Edirne, the Cheapest Real Day Trip
A direct bus, roughly 2h15 each way, reaches Sinan’s Selimiye Mosque, free to enter, for a one-way fare of roughly 650-1,100 TRY.
Day 5: Bursa, the Long Day That’s Still Worth It
The Mudanya ferry (1h40-1h45) plus a short transfer, or a 3-5 hour direct bus, gets you to the first Ottoman capital. Count on 10-14.5 hours round trip.
Day 6: Gallipoli, and an Overnight in Canakkale
Travel to Canakkale, roughly 4.5-5.5 hours each way by road, and spend the afternoon at the Gallipoli battlefields. This is the one leg of the whole plan you should not attempt as a same-day round trip; the distance alone eats 9-11 hours before you even count time at the sites. Book a room in Canakkale rather than pushing back to Istanbul the same night.
Day 7: Troy, Then Back to Istanbul
Troy sits a further 30 minutes south of Canakkale, linked to the Gallipoli peninsula by a short ferry crossing. See the ruins in the morning, then make the 4.5-5.5 hour trip back to Istanbul, arriving with time to spare for a final dinner in the city.
Can you fit Gallipoli and Troy into a week from Istanbul?
Yes, but only as an overnight, not a day trip. Seven days is the minimum trip length where this itinerary gives that leg the room it needs; a same-day round trip from Istanbul turns into a 12-14 hour ordeal for barely an hour or two at either site.
What about Cappadocia in 7 days?
It doesn’t fit here either, and for a different reason: Cappadocia sits roughly 730km away, and almost everyone flies rather than driving 8-10 hours. Treat it as its own separate trip of at least 2 days, not a slot inside this one.
