Albania in 6 Days on a Budget (With Daily Costs)
Six days adds a real night on the Riviera, Himare or Dhermi, to the Tirana-Berat-Gjirokaster-Saranda run, with the Llogara Pass drive back to Tirana as its own day rather than a rushed afternoon. Pay in LEK for the usual roughly 5% saving over euro prices, and budget EUR 35-65 a day once Riviera seafood and a sunbed enter the picture. A rental car earns its keep on this version; the coast beyond Ksamil barely has scheduled buses at all.

Day 1: Tirana
Rinas Express into Skanderbeg Square runs around EUR 4. The square is free; Bunk’Art 2 runs roughly 900-1,000 LEK, and Blloku covers dinner for EUR 8-12.
Day 2: Berat
Furgon or bus down runs roughly 400-500 LEK, 2 to 2.5 hours. The general castle fee is waived across most 2026 listings; the Onufri Museum still costs roughly 400-500 LEK.
Day 3: Gjirokaster
The scheduled bus from Berat runs roughly EUR 12, about 3 hours, twice daily. Castle, bunker, and museum together run roughly 800 LEK, part of the same UNESCO listing as Berat.
Day 4: Saranda and Butrint
The bus from Gjirokaster runs roughly EUR 6, an hour to an hour and 20 minutes. Butrint costs 1,000 LEK standard, with a full list of concession prices and free-entry dates on the official ticket page . Budget 2-3 hours.
Day 5: Ksamil, the Blue Eye, and north to the Riviera
Ksamil furgon runs roughly 100-150 LEK, 20-25 minutes. The Blue Eye costs only 50 LEK entry plus 100-200 LEK parking, cash only. From here scheduled buses thin out fast: this is the leg where a rental car or a pre-arranged transfer earns back its cost, since Himare sits roughly 1h30 up the coast (~54km) and Dhermi another 25 minutes past that.
Is the Albanian Riviera worth the extra two days on a budget trip? Yes, if a sunbed and a swim matter as much as the castles. Dhermi and Himare are calmer and cheaper than Ksamil in peak summer, sunbeds run roughly EUR 5-10/day for two, and Gjipe Beach between them is reachable only by a car or a booked boat, not a bus.
Is Ksamil overrated for budget travelers? In July and August, largely yes. It’s grown from a quiet village to a packed sunbed strip in under a decade, and infrastructure hasn’t caught up. May, June, and September deliver the same turquoise water with a fraction of the crowd, and often a cheaper room rate too.
Day 6: The Llogara Pass, and the drive back
The climb out of Dhermi or Himare over the Llogara Pass (SH8, summit roughly 1,027m) takes about an hour, with a dozen-plus hairpins and morning or evening fog that can cut visibility to 10-20 meters. Fuel up in Vlore or Dhermi first; there’s nothing at the summit. From Vlore, it’s roughly 2h15 back to Tirana via Fier and Durres.
Is the Llogara Pass drive safe on a budget rental? Yes, if you drive it in daylight. The road is paved but narrow with a dozen-plus hairpins over a roughly 1,027m summit, and fog at dawn or dusk can cut visibility to 10-20 meters. Fuel up before the climb; a cheap rental with worn tires is the wrong place to find out there’s no station at the top.
Skip the coastal furgon guesswork north of Saranda; book a rental car or a private transfer for this one leg even if you bused everywhere else, the schedule gaps aren’t worth losing a day to.
