Day 1: Historic Core
Start at Brandenburg Gate, free and viewable any time, then walk Unter den Linden toward the Reichstag for your registered dome slot, book at visite.bundestag.de before you leave home, this is not a walk-up sight. Spend the rest of the morning at the Holocaust Memorial, free and open 24/7, then cut through Tiergarten toward Mitte. Lunch is currywurst from a stand near Alexanderplatz (€2.20-5); dinner can be another currywurst round or a €12-20 sit-down meal in Mitte. The ABC-zone day ticket, about €12.90 (check current VBB fares ), covers your transit for the whole day.
Day 2: Museum Island
Buy the €24 Museumsinsel-Ticket day pass rather than a single €14 museum ticket the moment you plan on two houses; it covers the Neues Museum (Nefertiti bust), Altes Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Bode Museum and the Pergamonmuseum’s Panorama installation. The Pergamonmuseum’s main galleries stay closed until 4 June 2027, confirm current status on smb.museum before you build a day around it. Budget 3-4 hours if you want to see more than one house properly. In the evening, walk the Nikolaiviertel, Berlin’s reconstructed old-town quarter, for a low-cost wander before a currywurst or doner dinner.
Is two days enough for Berlin?
Enough for the free icons and one paid museum day, not enough for the Wall sites or the neighborhood scene. Two days covers Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag dome, the Holocaust Memorial and Museum Island comfortably; East Side Gallery, Checkpoint Charlie and Kreuzberg’s nightlife need a third day at minimum.
Do you need the Berlin WelcomeCard for two days?
Usually not. Two days of ABC day tickets runs about €25.80, and this itinerary’s only paid stop, Museum Island, already has its own €24 pass that a general transport card does not improve on. The WelcomeCard pays off once you are adding several more discounted attractions, like the TV Tower or Charlottenburg, across a longer stay, not on a 2-day icons-and-museum trip.
Confirm your Reichstag registration and Museum Island tickets before you land. Both outlast a walk-up visitor’s patience once the summer crowds arrive.
