Guyana: 7 Day Adventure Itinerary
Visa Requirements: Many nationalities can enter Guyana visa-free for up to 90 days. Check with your nearest Guyanese embassy or consulate for specific requirements based on your citizenship.
Transportation:
- International Flights: Fly into Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO) in Georgetown.
- Domestic Travel: Minibuses are the most common form of transportation between cities and towns. Taxis are readily available in Georgetown and other urban areas. For remote locations, consider hiring a private driver or tour operator.
Currency: Guyanese Dollar (GYD). US Dollars are widely accepted but you’ll receive change in GYD.
Day 1: Georgetown Arrival & City Exploration
- Morning: Arrive at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO) and transfer to your accommodation in Georgetown.
- Afternoon: Explore Georgetown, a charming colonial city with Dutch influences. Visit:
- St. George’s Cathedral: One of the tallest wooden churches in the world.
- Parliament Building: An impressive example of Gothic Revival architecture.
- Stabroek Market: A bustling marketplace offering local produce, crafts, and souvenirs.
- Evening: Enjoy dinner at a restaurant along Water Street, savoring Guyanese cuisine like pepperpot or cook-up rice.
Day 2: Kaieteur Falls & Lush Rainforest
- Morning: Take a scenic flight to Kaieteur Falls, one of the world’s most powerful single-drop waterfalls.
- Afternoon: Hike through the surrounding rainforest, observing diverse flora and fauna, including colorful birds and monkeys.
- Evening: Return to Georgetown for dinner and rest.
Day 3: Rupununi Savannah & Wildlife Encounters
- Morning: Fly or drive to Lethem, the gateway to the vast Rupununi savannah.
- Afternoon: Embark on a guided safari through the savannah, spotting giant anteaters, jaguars, capybaras, and various bird species.
- Evening: Stay overnight at a remote eco-lodge in the heart of the savannah.
Day 4: Immerse in Amerindian Culture

- Afternoon: Witness the incredible spectacle of sea turtles laying their eggs on the sandy beach during nesting season (March-August).
Day 6: Iwokrama Rainforest & Canopy Walkway
- Morning: Travel to Iwokrama Forest, a vast rainforest reserve dedicated to sustainable forestry and biodiversity conservation.
- Afternoon: Hike through the forest trails and climb the towering canopy walkway for breathtaking views of the treetops and surrounding wildlife.
Day 7: Departure
- Morning: Enjoy breakfast at your accommodation.
- Afternoon: Transfer back to Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO) for your departure flight.
