Málaga in 2 Days on a Budget (Daily Costs)

2 days: the Málaga city core, cheaply
Two days is enough for Málaga’s city core, the fortress, the Roman theatre, Picasso and an espeto lunch, but not for the day trips that make a longer stay worth it. Budget roughly 30-50 euros a day beyond your room, less if you lean on the free sights. Have a third day? The 3-day itinerary adds a day trip, and the day-trips guide lists them all.

Day 1: The Moorish and Roman core
Start at the Roman Theatre (free), the 1st-century BC theatre sitting directly under the Alcazaba, the 11th-century Moorish fortress. Buy the combined Alcazaba and Gibralfaro ticket (about 5.50 euros, verify) and walk the linked wall up to the Gibralfaro terrace, roughly 130 metres over the port, for the classic view. Drop back down to the Cathedral, “La Manquita,” whose south tower was never finished (a few euros inside, verify). Lunch on tapas in the old town, ordered two at a time. Tip: climb the free footpath beside the Alcazaba instead of paying twice for the fortress and the castle separately.
Day 2: Picasso, the market and the beach
Spend the morning on Picasso: the Museo Casa Natal on the Plaza de la Merced marks his 1881 birthplace, and the main Museo Picasso Málaga (about 12 euros, verify) is 200 metres away. Walk down Calle Larios to the Atarazanas Market for a cheap stand-up tapas lunch before it shuts mid-afternoon. In the afternoon, take the bus east to Pedregalejo for an espeto on the beach, sardines on a sugarcane skewer over an open fire, a few euros a plate. Tip: eat your main meal as a late lunch on the beach and keep the evening to a cheap tapas graze, kitchens here do not really open until 9pm anyway.
How much does 2 days in Málaga cost?
Figure roughly 60-90 euros across the two days for tickets, transport and meals, plus your room. Almost half the highlights, the Roman Theatre, the Gibralfaro footpath view, Calle Larios and the market, cost nothing, so the total drops fast if you skip the paid museums.
