Day 1: The free core, plus one paid rooftop

Day 4: Verona on the slower, cheaper train
Milano Centrale to Verona Porta Nuova runs two ways. The regionale veloce takes about 1 hour 50 minutes and costs roughly EUR 12 to 13 no matter how late you book; Frecciarossa or Italo cover it in 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 19 minutes but climb to EUR 27 or more once the early fares are gone. On a budget day, the extra 35 to 40 minutes buys back most of the ticket price. Is 4 days enough for a Milan budget day-trip base?
