Suriname Adventure: A 5-Day Itinerary
Visa Requirements: Check your nationality’s visa requirements. Many nationalities can obtain a tourist visa on arrival, valid for 90 days.
Currency: Surinamese Dollar (SRD) but US dollars are widely accepted.
Language: Dutch is the official language, but Sranan Tongo (a Creole language) is commonly spoken.
Transportation: Minibuses are the primary mode of transportation within cities and towns. For longer distances, shared taxis or domestic flights are available.
Day 1: Paramaribo - City Exploration & Cultural Immersion
- Morning: Arrive at Johan Adolf Pengel International Airport (PBM). Exchange currency and take a taxi to your accommodation in Paramaribo.
- Afternoon: Explore the historic inner city, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit Fort Zeelandia, the Presidential Palace, and the St. Peter and Paul Basilica.
- Evening: Indulge in Suriname’s diverse cuisine at one of Paramaribo’s many restaurants. Try “pom”, a traditional Surinamese dish made with cassava.
Day 2: Nature Escape - Brownsberg Nature Park
- Morning: Take a shared taxi or hire a driver to Brownsberg Nature Park, located about 1 hour from Paramaribo. Hike through the rainforest trails, admire stunning waterfalls like the Leo Falls and enjoy panoramic views from the summit.
