6-Day Tanzanian Adventure: Safari & Beaches
This itinerary balances wildlife encounters with relaxation on the stunning Tanzanian coast.
Visa Requirements:
- Most nationalities require a visa to enter Tanzania. You can obtain one on arrival at major airports (USD 50 for tourists). Check the latest requirements based on your nationality before travelling.
Transportation:
- Domestic flights are convenient for covering long distances within Tanzania.
- Safari lodges often arrange transportation from airstrips/airports.
- Hire a private car with a driver for flexibility during your beach stay.
- Public transport (buses, dala-dalas) is available but can be crowded and less comfortable.
Currency: Tanzanian Shilling (TZS). US dollars are widely accepted.
Things to Know:
- Language: Swahili and English are official languages.
- Weather: Tanzania has a tropical climate with warm temperatures year-round. Pack light, breathable clothing, sunscreen, a hat, and insect repellent.
- Health: Consult your doctor about necessary vaccinations and malaria prophylaxis. Drink bottled water and avoid eating raw fruits/vegetables from street vendors.
Day 1: Arrival in Arusha & Transfer to Tarangire National Park
- Fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO).
- Meet your safari guide and transfer to Tarangire National Park (approx. 2 hours drive).
- Check into your chosen lodge/campsite within the park.
- Afternoon game drive in Tarangire, known for its massive elephant herds and baobab trees.
Day 2: Tarangire Safari & Cultural Experience
- Morning game drive exploring different areas of Tarangire.
- Optional visit to a Maasai village near the park to learn about their culture and traditions.
- Relax at your lodge in the afternoon, enjoying the stunning views.
Day 3: Transfer to Serengeti National Park
- Enjoy a final morning game drive in Tarangire before transferring to the Serengeti (approx. 4-5 hours drive).
- Check into your lodge/campsite in the Serengeti.
- Afternoon game drive, searching for lions, cheetahs, wildebeest, and zebras.
Day 4: Serengeti Safari & Hot Air Balloon Ride (Optional)
- Morning and afternoon game drives exploring different sections of the vast Serengeti plains.
- Witness the Great Migration if your trip coincides with this spectacular event.
- Optional sunrise hot air balloon ride over the Serengeti for a breathtaking perspective (extra cost).
Day 5: Transfer to Zanzibar & Relax on the Beach
- Morning game drive in the Serengeti before transferring to Arusha Airport (approx. 1 hour flight).
- Fly from Arusha to Zanzibar (ZNZ).
- Check into your beach resort or guesthouse in Nungwi, Kendwa, or Paje.
- Relax on the white sand beaches, swim in turquoise waters, and soak up the sun.
Day 6: Explore Stone Town & Departure
- Visit Stone Town, Zanzibar’s historic capital, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Stroll through narrow streets, admire ancient architecture, explore spice markets, and enjoy local cuisine.
- Depart from Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ) in the evening.
Other Activities:
- Hiking: Mount Kilimanjaro for experienced climbers, or shorter hikes on the slopes of Mount Meru.
- Scuba Diving & Snorkelling: Explore vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life off the coast of Zanzibar.
- Dhow Sailing: Cruise along the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean on a traditional dhow boat.
