3 days adds a genuine UNESCO day trip to the free core
This route keeps the 2-day itinerary’s free Capitole-and-Saint-Sernin core and one aerospace sight, then adds a full day in Albi, a UNESCO “Episcopal City” about 50 minutes away by train. Expect roughly 55-95 EUR a person per day including a bed, meals, transit, and the day trip. The tables below break down each day’s real cost.
Book these before you go
- The Albi train, a day or two ahead in July and August through SNCF Connect , direct services sell out in peak season
- A slot for Cite de l’Espace or the Let’s Visit Airbus tour , the Airbus tour also needs photo ID
- A room ahead if your dates land on Piano aux Jacobins (September) or the Christmas market (late November-December)
Day 1: Place du Capitole, Saint-Sernin, and the Jacobins
Start at Place du Capitole, free to cross, then walk to the Basilica of Saint-Sernin, the largest surviving Romanesque church in Europe and UNESCO-listed since 1998, free to enter (the crypt is a separate 2 EUR ticket). Continue to the Jacobins for the 22-rib “palmier” vault and the relics of St Thomas Aquinas, 5 EUR (free the first Sunday of the month). End with a sunset walk along the Garonne quays and the Pont Neuf, free either way. Lunch at Marche Victor Hugo; dinner off the square in Carmes-Saint-Etienne.

Day 2: one aerospace sight
Pick Cite de l’Espace (21.50-24.50 EUR, 3-4 hours) or Aeroscopia (from 13 EUR, 2-3 hours), optionally combined with the Let’s Visit Airbus tour (16 EUR, ID required, 26 EUR combined). Both are near Blagnac, reached by Tisseo metro and a connecting bus. Lunch near the site; dinner back in the centre.

Day 3: Albi, the red-brick UNESCO day trip
Albi sits about 85km northeast on the Toulouse-Rodez line, roughly 50 minutes to an hour direct. The Cathedrale Sainte-Cecile has a free nave; the choir and treasury cost 6 EUR combined. The Musee Toulouse-Lautrec, in the former bishops’ palace, runs 10 EUR adult, free for visitors 17 and under, and holds the world’s largest public collection of the Albi-born painter’s work. Lunch in Albi; dinner back in Toulouse once the train returns.

Getting around on 3 days without overspending
Days 1 and 2 stay inside the walkable centre plus one metro/bus hop to Blagnac; Day 3 runs entirely on the direct Toulouse-Albi train, no local transit needed once you arrive since Albi’s centre is walkable too. Book the Albi train and whichever aerospace sight you pick before you land, both sell out same-day slots in peak season. Everything else on this 3-day plan is cheap enough that timing, not money, is the thing to manage.
