Yogyakarta in 7 Days on a Budget (With Daily Costs)
Seven days: the full spine, plus one optional splurge
Seven days is the 6-day itinerary plus a genuine choice on Day 7: Jomblang Cave, the priciest single activity in this cluster, or a free wind-down day if that fee doesn’t fit the budget. Every earlier day in this plan stays the same; this is the full spine, not a rebuild.
Book these before you go

| Day 7 | Jomblang Cave, or a free wind-down day | Roughly 1.5h each way | Rp500,000+ or under Rp50,000 |
Day 1: Kraton, Taman Sari, Malioboro
Land at YIA and take the airport rail link into Tugu Station, Rp20,000-50,000. Visit the Kraton, Rp15,000-25,000, then Taman Sari, Rp15,000-30,000, and close the day on Malioboro.
Day 2: Borobudur, the budget way
Sunrise at Punthuk Setumbu, roughly Rp30,000, then the official grounds ticket at Borobudur, around Rp400,000. Skip the Rp455,000 climb ticket unless it’s already booked 3-5 days out.
Day 3: Prambanan, the Hindu counterpart
Prambanan’s foreign ticket runs around Rp400,000, a shorter 30-45 minute transfer than Borobudur. Add the Ramayana Ballet only if it fits your budget and schedule.
Day 4: A shared Merapi jeep tour
Merapi holds Alert Level 3, Siaga, in 2026; the jeep lava tours run safely on the lower slopes around Kaliurang, well outside the danger zone. A short route runs around Rp350,000 per jeep, split among 3-4 riders.
Day 5: Kotagede’s silver district and the Cosmological Axis
Kotagede costs nothing to wander beyond transport; pair it with the Cosmological Axis walk, the UNESCO-listed 2023-inscribed line from Merapi through the Kraton to the Tugu Monument.
Day 6: Parangtritis beach
Parangtritis sits about 27km south, reachable by Grab or a cheap public angkot. Treat it as a dune-and-cliff scenery stop rather than a swim day; strong currents make the water itself dangerous.
Day 7: Jomblang Cave, or a free wind-down day
Jomblang Cave’s abseil-and-Heavenly-Light experience runs roughly Rp500,000 and up per person, the most expensive single activity across this whole itinerary, with one daily 9am departure capped near 80 people. It’s worth the splurge if a standout adventure day matters more to you than saving the money. If it doesn’t fit the budget, spend Day 7 instead on a second free pass through Kotagede or Malioboro, or a return sunset visit to Prambanan, and skip the fee entirely.
Is the Jomblang Cave splurge worth it on a budget trip?
Only if a genuinely unusual adventure activity matters more than the roughly Rp500,000-plus fee. The abseil descent and the midday light beam through the sinkhole are unlike anything else in this itinerary, but the daily cap and single 9am departure mean it also demands the most advance planning of any day on this list.
What if 7 days is too long for a budget trip?
Drop Day 7 first, then Day 6; the 5-day itinerary keeps both temples, the Merapi jeep, and Kotagede’s free day while cutting the two lowest-priority days on this list.
Decide on Jomblang Cave before you land, not on Day 6; the single daily departure and 80-person cap mean a last-minute decision usually means missing it entirely.
