Istanbul’s real day trips split into two moods, not a long checklist: a beach afternoon on the Black Sea coast, or a history-heavy day in a former Ottoman capital. Pick one mood per day rather than trying to force both.
The beach mood: Kilyos and Sile
Kilyos, in the Sariyer district and technically still inside Istanbul, is roughly 30-45 minutes by car or a metro-plus-bus combination (M2 to Hacıosman, then bus 151), about 70-90 minutes door to door from Taksim. Its named beaches, Solar, Burc, Uzunya, and Tirmata, mix free public stretches with paid beach clubs running roughly 200-1,000+ TRY on a summer weekend. The history mood: Bursa and Edirne
Bursa, the first Ottoman capital, sits about 150km south; the fastest routes are an IDO fast ferry from Yenikapi or Kadikoy (about 1h35) or a BUDO sea bus from Kabatas to Mudanya (about 1.5 hours), each followed by a taxi or bus into the city center, with fares running roughly 625-845 TRY.
