Family-Friendly Manila: Museums, Zoo and Park
Four stops carry most of a family’s time in Manila well, each good for a half-day without the queue fatigue that shorter, scattered stops tend to cause.
The Mind Museum, BGC
The metro’s strongest dedicated science stop for kids: hands-on exhibits and a life-size dinosaur skeleton fill three hours without repeating a station. Entry is ₱625 adult or ₱550 child for a 3-hour slot, or ₱750 for an all-day pass at either age. Book through the Mind Museum’s own site or a Mind Museum ticket via a general marketplace ahead of a weekend visit.
Manila Ocean Park
Set behind Quirino Grandstand, this oceanarium’s highlights are the walk-through shark tunnel plus the sea lion and penguin shows. Online package tickets run ₱690 to ₱1,100 through the official Ocean Park site or a bundled Ocean Park ticket ; walk-in gate rates run ₱1,500 to ₱2,000 and are worth skipping.
National Museum of Natural History
Free, air-conditioned, and its glass “Tree of Life” atrium elevator is a genuine draw for kids on its own. A 2026 exhibit here displays the preserved remains of Mali, Manila Zoo’s elephant, clearly labeled as an educational specimen among the museum’s other natural-history collections.
Manila Zoo
Reopened post-2022-renovation with tigers, African lions, birds of prey, pythons, crocodiles, Philippine deer and primates: real and modestly scaled, not a major wildlife park, and with no elephant on exhibit. Entry costs ₱150 per adult and ₱100 per child for Manila residents, rising to ₱300 and ₱250 for non-residents, and there’s a 20% discount for seniors and PWDs, with children under two admitted free.
A family day trip, if you have the time
For a full-day excursion, Villa Escudero sits about 2.5 hours south of the city with carabao-cart rides, bamboo rafting and a waterfall restaurant, an 8 to 10-hour outing at roughly ₱1,800 to ₱2,100 per person. It’s worth it only on a trip of five days or longer, so it doesn’t eat into the city stops above.
What to skip with kids
Manila Bay, Dolomite Beach and LPPCHEA all carry active DENR swimming bans, and Dolomite Beach closes entirely every Thursday.
Tip: Save a printed or offline copy of your Ocean Park or Mind Museum booking; signal near both entrances can drop at peak hours.
