Group Activities Mandalay Region
Travel advisory: The US advises against all travel to Myanmar. The UK advises against all but essential travel to Mandalay, and against all travel to Sagaing and the area north of Mandalay city. Conflict, drone attacks, curfews and internet cut-offs persist, and the March 2025 earthquake left many of the area’s sites damaged. Check the US State Department and UK FCDO before making any plans.
Group Travel in Mandalay Region
No organised group activities in Mandalay Region can be verified, and under current official advice group travel to the region is not advisable. The area north of Mandalay city and all of Sagaing Region fall under the UK’s advice against all travel.
What groups once visited
- Mahamuni Pagoda, Kuthodaw Pagoda and Mandalay Hill. A building at Mahamuni collapsed in the March 2025 earthquake, Kuthodaw suffered serious structural damage, and access to all three is unconfirmed.
- Amarapura and Sagaing. Sagaing lies in an area where the UK advises against all travel, and the condition of both is unconfirmed.
- Marionette shows and craft workshops, whose current status is unconfirmed.
Practical notes
- Dress modestly at religious sites.
- Cash is the main means of payment, and many ATMs reject foreign cards.
