Liverpool Activities: Music, Football, Museums
Quick picks for a first visit: the Beatles Story, a Mersey ferry cruise, an Anfield stadium tour and a night of live music on Mathew Street. All prices are in GBP and were current when checked, but confirm them with each venue.
Closed or moved
Two of the Albert Dock’s big museums are not open. The Merseyside Maritime Museum and the International Slavery Museum closed in January 2025 for a rebuild and will stay shut until at least 2028. Tate Liverpool has a free temporary home at RIBA North on Mann Island, open every day from 10:00 to 17:50, and the gallery is due back at the dock in 2027. The Mersey Ferries’ Woodside terminal is also closed, and the cruise calls at Seacombe instead.
Music and the Beatles
- The Beatles Story, Royal Albert Dock: adults about GBP 20, concessions GBP 16, ages 5 to 15 GBP 11, under-5s free. Pay by card and pick a timed slot online.
- Cavern Club, Mathew Street: about GBP 6 for adults, GBP 3 for ages 12 to 17 who are with an adult, and free under 12. Pay on the door, as general admission cannot be booked ahead.
- Strawberry Field, Woolton: about GBP 12.45 for adults, open daily 10:00 to 17:00, reached by bus 76.
- Liverpool Beatles Museum, 23 Mathew Street: GBP 20 for adults and GBP 15 for concessions.
Football
Liverpool FC offers a stadium tour and museum at Anfield from GBP 26 for adults, and the Anfield Abseil for GBP 46. Everton’s men now play at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, which opened in 2025, so treat its tour price as approximate. Goodison Park hosts tours on selected dates for about GBP 20 for adults.
On the river
The River Explorer cruise from Pier Head lasts 50 minutes. Adults pay GBP 14, children aged 5 to 15 pay GBP 9 and concessions pay GBP 12.50. Do not swim or paddle in the Mersey itself, since the tides are strong and ships use the channel.
Culture, free
The Museum of Liverpool, the World Museum and the Walker Art Gallery charge no entry fee. Opening days vary, so check the websites on the day.
Practical notes
- A Merseyrail Day Saver is roughly GBP 5 to GBP 6.50, valid outside weekday morning peaks.
- Liverpool’s waterfront is not a World Heritage Site, as the listing was withdrawn in 2021.
- Bundles sold as a Liverpool Pass come from resellers and are not an official city card.
