Can Tho and the Mekong Delta, done properly
A day trip to Cai Rang arrives after the market has already thinned, since real trading runs roughly 05:00 to 08:30 and the market itself has shrunk to around 200 boats today from about 500 in 2016. Two to three days changes the outcome entirely: arrive in Can Tho by evening, take a pre-dawn boat out to catch the market at its real hour, then spend the rest of the day on canals, orchards, and a rice-noodle workshop before heading back. It is a genuinely different trip from the rushed My Tho or Ben Tre day option, not a longer version of the same thing.

Cat Tien National Park
Around 150 km and 3.5-4.5 hours from the city, Cat Tien is southern Vietnam’s main lowland rainforest reserve, best done as a 2-3 day trip: jungle trekking under tung and lagerstroemia trees, night spotlighting safaris for sambar deer, wild boar, and civets, and a trek or jeep ride to Bau Sau (Crocodile Lake) for endangered Siamese crocodiles and endemic primates including golden-cheeked gibbons and black-shanked douc langurs. Vietnam’s last Javan rhino was poached here in 2010, and tigers are functionally extinct in the reserve now, so neither belongs on a realistic wildlife list for this trip.
A longer circuit worth planning ahead
A Cu Chi Tunnels morning pairs naturally with Tay Ninh’s noon Cao Dai ceremony on one long day, and a 3-4 day version extends that combination into an overnight Mekong leg rather than trying to force all three into single-day trips. My Tho, Ben Tre, Vung Tau, and Tay Ninh alone remain genuine same-day options and don’t need multi-day treatment on their own.
