A real multi-day trip from here means crossing a border, not padding out a single small city.
Malaysia, Overland
The Woodlands Causeway puts you in Johor Bahru today, by bus or the KTM shuttle train (the RTS Link rail connection is still not running, targeted for December 2026). From there, Melaka is roughly 2 to 2.5 hours further, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed city worth a night on its own. Kuala Lumpur is another 4 to 5 hours by road or under 1.5 hours by air from Singapore directly, and a genuine multi-night stop rather than a rushed add-on. Cameron Highlands and Langkawi extend the trip further still, cool-climate tea plantations and a duty-free island respectively, each worth at least one more overnight beyond KL. Indonesia, By Ferry or Air
Bintan and Batam, the same islands covered as day trips elsewhere, work far better as a 2 to 3 night resort stay than a single-day dash; the ferry crossing is identical either way, just with a longer stay booked at the other end. Bali is a genuine option too, a regional flight of roughly 2.5 to 3 hours, common enough as a Singapore-plus add-on that it’s worth mentioning even though current route and price specifics are worth confirming closer to your travel dates rather than assumed from an old itinerary.
A passport is required for every option above, Malaysia and Indonesia alike, so this isn’t a spontaneous extension the way adding another day inside Singapore would be. Build the border crossing into your plans before you book flights, not after.
