No organised outdoor activities in Mandalay Region can be verified. Under current official advice, independent excursions are unsuitable, and the area north of Mandalay city and all of Sagaing Region fall under the UK’s advice against all travel.
Pyin Oo Lwin hills
Pyin Oo Lwin (formerly Maymyo) is a hill station known for its cool climate and colonial architecture. It lies in an area where the UK advises against all travel, and rocket attacks have hit the town.
Practical notes
- The cooler months run from about October to April.
- Dress modestly at religious sites and ask permission before photographing people.
- Carry water and sun protection.
- Landmines and unexploded ordnance are a risk outside cities.
