Porto With Kids: Zoo, Aquarium and Parks

Lions and giraffes are a short trip from central Porto, just not inside the city itself.
Zoo Santo Inácio
Zoo Santo Inácio sits in Avintes, Vila Nova de Gaia, about 10 minutes from central Porto. It holds somewhere between 600 and 800 animals across roughly 200 to 270 species, with confirmed lions, tigers and giraffes among them, including a glass-walkway “Lions Tunnel” exhibit. SEA LIFE Porto

World of Discoveries
An interactive Age-of-Discovery museum built around Portugal’s exploration history, ending in an indoor boat ride, running about 12 euros adult and 6 euros child for a visit of roughly 45 minutes. It’s a good rainy-day option since the whole experience is indoors.
Serralves’ park and treetop walkway
Beyond the contemporary art museum itself, Serralves’ grounds include a treetop canopy walkway that appeals to kids on its own terms. Full access runs 24 euros adult, park-only entry 12 euros, and it’s free on the first Sunday of each month, worth timing a visit around if your dates are flexible.
Getting the day to actually work
Zoo Santo Inácio and SEA LIFE both involve a short trip out of central Porto, so pick one rather than both in a single day unless you’re prepared for a lot of transit time with tired kids. World of Discoveries and Serralves sit closer to the center and combine more easily. Most restaurants outside the busiest tourist strips will happily simplify or split a dish for a child on request, and the flatter routes near the Crystal Palace Gardens and the riverfront are the easiest going with a stroller, since the hill climbs around the historic center are steeper than photos make them look.
Put the zoo first if lions and giraffes are the actual ask, and save World of Discoveries for a day the weather turns. Pair either with the sightseeing guide for what else is walkable nearby, or the Porto 2-day itinerary if you’re mapping a short family trip.
