The Best Korea Day Trips From Seoul and Busan
South Korea’s rail network sets the real boundary for a day trip: anything the KTX or a regional train reaches inside two hours works comfortably, and anything that needs a flight, however short, does not.
Nami Island and the Garden of Morning Calm, from Seoul
Gapyeong Station is 40 to 55 minutes from Yongsan or Cheongnyangni on the ITX-Cheongchun train for 6,900 won, and a Gapyeong City Tour Bus day pass connects onward for 8,000 won. Nami Island’s ferry-inclusive entry runs 16,000 won for foreign adults, with an 80-meter zip-wire crossing the Han River as an alternative for 49,900 won. Walking the walls is free; the Hwaseong Eochea tourist trolley costs 4,000 won, and traditional Korean archery at Yeonmudae runs 2,000 won for 10 arrows.
Bukhansan National Park, from Seoul
Subway Line 3 to Gupabal Station, then Bus 704, reaches the Bukhansanseong fortress entrance. The climb to Baegundae Peak at 836m crosses the old fortress gate and scrambles up granite slabs with wire-rope railings, 3 to 4 hours round trip. Gyeongju, from Busan
KTX from Busan Station to Singyeongju Station takes 28 to 32 minutes, from around 11,000 won one-way. Express Bus 700 reaches Bulguksa Temple; Bus 50 or 51 reaches the Daereungwon Royal Tombs downtown. Renting an electric scooter or bicycle for 15,000 won a day is the easiest way to reach Cheomseongdae, the free 7th-century observatory, and Wolji Pond, whose illuminated pavilions are best seen after dark, on foot around the perimeter only.
Tongyeong, from Busan
Tongyeong is about 1.5 hours from Busan Seobu (Sasang) Terminal by intercity coach, for around 12,000 won. The Tongyeong Cable Car climbs Mount Mireuksan for 17,000 won return, with views over the 150-plus islands of Hallyeohaesang National Marine Park, and the Skyline Luge Tongyeong nearby runs 30,000 won for three rides. The verdict
