Mandalay has long been known for skilled artisans. No workshop in the city can currently be confirmed open, and conditions have changed since the March 2025 earthquake.

Crafts the city is known for

• Woodcarving is known for scenes from Buddhist mythology or everyday life, carved in teak into sculptures, furniture and religious objects.
• Gold leaf making involves hammering thin sheets of gold used to adorn pagodas and Buddha statues across Myanmar.
• Textile weaving produced silk and cotton cloth on looms passed down through generations.
• Marble carving produced sculptures, Buddha images and decorative items.
