Fiji in 6 Days on a Budget (With Daily Costs)
Six days in Fiji on a budget takes the 5 day Nadi-island-Coral Coast plan and pushes on to Suva for one honest capital day, museum and market included. This is the shortest version of this route that actually reaches the capital. The 7 day version adds one more Suva morning before flying home.
Book these before you go: a Suva hotel room for the one night you are there, the Mamanuca Islands Explorer day cruise for day two, and Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park entry for day five if you want it guided.

Land at Nadi, Fiji’s real gateway , and spend the afternoon at the Sabeto hot springs and mud pool (FJD10-20) and the Garden of the Sleeping Giant (FJD20 adult). Full detail is in the 2 day itinerary .
Day 2: A Mamanuca day cruise
Ride the Mamanuca Islands Explorer from Port Denarau, roughly 3 hours for FJD159 (about USD72), transfers included (southseacruisesfiji.com has the schedule). Full detail is in the 4 day itinerary .
Day 3: A budget Mamanuca island, overnight
One-way boat transfer (roughly FJD75-230) out to a Mamanuca island with backpacker bures from FJD150-250 a night. Full detail is in the 4 day itinerary .

Day 5: Sigatoka Sand Dunes and the Coral Coast

Day 6: Nadi to Suva along the Queens Road
Ride Sunbeam Transport or Pacific Transport’s express coach the full Queens Road route from Nadi to Suva, roughly 3.5-4 hours for FJD15-25 one way, passing back through the Coral Coast on the way. In Suva, spend the afternoon at the Fiji Museum in Thurston Gardens, FJD20 for overseas visitors (FJD10 local), open daily 9am-4:30pm, then walk the Suva Municipal Market on Usher Street, free to browse with prepared meals for FJD5-15. A budget Suva hotel room runs roughly FJD70-150. Suva gets close to double Nadi’s rainfall, so pack for grey skies even in the dry season.
Is it worth going all the way to Suva on a budget trip?
Yes, for the museum and market alone, if you have the 6th day to spare. FJD20 buys the Fiji Museum’s full collection, from war canoes to the salvaged rudder of HMS Bounty, and the market costs nothing to walk through. It is not a beach day though, so treat it as a deliberate cultural add-on, not a default stop.
How much does 6 days in Fiji cost?
Budget roughly FJD1,230 total: the FJD1,060 five-day base plus a FJD170 Suva day, covering the coach fare, museum entry, food, and one Suva hotel night. Check Fiji Airways if you would rather fly the roughly 30-45 minute Nadi-Suva hop one direction instead of the full road trip.
Carry small FJD notes in Suva for the market and for petty cash generally; card acceptance thins out fast once you leave the main hotels.
