Day 1: Land and settle in Jeju City
Land at Jeju International Airport, pick up the rental car (physical IDP already in hand, since Korea won’t issue one after you arrive), and check into a Jeju City guesthouse; budget rooms run roughly 24,000-58,000 KRW a night (~$16-39). Spend the afternoon on Black Pork Street or Dongmun Market, both an easy walk from most north-side hotels, and get an early night before a sunrise start tomorrow.
Day 2: Seongsan Ilchulbong and Manjanggul, then push south
Drive east, roughly 1-1.5 hours, to Seongsan Ilchulbong (~5,000 KRW adult, ~$3.35), the UNESCO-listed tuff cone known as Sunrise Peak, then on to Manjanggul lava tube (~4,000 KRW adult, ~$2.70), which reopened 30 May 2026 after a two-year closure, worth confirming it’s still open before you build the day around it. Rather than heading back to Jeju City tonight, continue roughly 50 minutes to an hour further along the coast road to Seogwipo, your base for the next two nights.
Day 3: Seogwipo’s waterfalls and Jusangjeolli
Base in Seogwipo and walk to Cheonjiyeon Falls (~2,000 KRW adult, ~$1.35) or Jeongbang Falls, one of the only waterfalls in Asia that drops straight into the ocean. Drive 20-30 minutes west toward Jungmun for Cheonjeyeon’s three tiers (~2,500 KRW, confirm the current price) and the Jusangjeolli columnar cliffs (~2,000 KRW plus a 500 KRW parking fee), hexagonal basalt columns formed where Hallasan’s lava met the sea and cooled fast. The cluster sits close enough together that you won’t lose much of the day to driving. Fill the tank before heading to the airport; budget 45-60 minutes back from Seogwipo.
Is three days enough for Hallasan?
Not really, not without rushing everything else. A genuine Hallasan attempt, and its visithalla.jeju.go.kr reservation, needs its own full day given the trail length and the reservation logistics, so this route leaves it out entirely rather than squeezing in a half-hearted try. The 5-day itinerary is the shortest version of this route that includes it.
Do the three waterfalls near Seogwipo need separate visits?
Yes. Cheonjiyeon, Cheonjeyeon and Jeongbang are three distinct sights, not the same waterfall under different transliterations, and Jeongbang specifically is worth seeing for the ocean drop alone.
