Lucerne in 5 Days: Every Mountain, One Budget
Five days is enough to do all three of Lucerne’s big mountains, Pilatus, Rigi and Titlis, plus a proper culture day, without racing between them on the same afternoon. Budget roughly CHF 555-630 across the five days, hotel not included, with the mountain fares as the clear majority of that.

Day 1: Old Town on foot
Chapel Bridge and Water Tower first, free, honestly reconstructed after the 1993 fire that destroyed most of the original structure and its 17th-century paintings. Climb a Musegg Wall tower, also free, then the Lion Monument, the sandstone memorial to the Swiss Guards killed in 1792.
Day 1 spend: roughly CHF 60-95. End the day checking the mountain-weather forecast for the next three days, since you’ll want the clearest one for Pilatus.
Day 2: Mount Pilatus
The Golden Round Trip, boat plus the world’s steepest cogwheel railway plus the Kriens cableway, runs roughly CHF 119.50-140 (verify), seasonal, so confirm current operating dates before booking.
Day 2 spend: roughly CHF 160-200. End the day resting, since Rigi tomorrow means another early cogwheel departure.
Day 3: Mount Rigi
Cogwheel from Vitznau (about 33 minutes) or Arth-Goldau (about 37 minutes) up “Queen of the Mountains,” Europe’s first mountain railway, opened 1871. A return runs roughly CHF 78 (verify), free if you’re holding a Swiss Travel Pass.
Day 3 spend: roughly CHF 115-140. End the day comparing what Rigi and Pilatus each showed you, since which one you preferred is worth knowing before you recommend either to anyone else.
Day 4: Titlis day trip
Train to Engelberg, then the cable car to the 3,020m glacier summit, roughly CHF 96 (verify). The rotating Rotair is closed 17 Aug-11 Dec 2026, replaced by the Titlis Connect cable car in that window (verify). The Cliff Walk suspension bridge sits at the top.
Day 4 spend: roughly CHF 135-165, plus the Engelberg train fare. End the day with a proper dinner back in Lucerne.
Day 5: Culture and the lake
Swiss Museum of Transport, CHF 37 adult (verify), or the Rosengart Collection, then an afternoon Lake Lucerne boat trip (check current SGV fares).
Day 5 spend: roughly CHF 100-130, plus the boat fare. End the day packing, since three mountain days in a row is genuinely tiring.
