Mecca in 4 Days: An Umrah Plan (Costs)

Non-Muslims cannot enter Mecca; this is a 4 day Umrah plan for Muslim pilgrims. Four days is enough to spread the rites over two separate days, arrival first, Umrah second, with a ziyarah day and a rest day either side.
This plan builds in what a 3 day trip can’t: a full rest day before departure. If 4 days is still too short, our 6 day plan adds a second ziyarah day at Jabal Thawr; if 3 days is all you have, see the 3 day plan instead.
Before you travel
- Umrah visa and permit confirmed through Nusuk
- MenACWY meningitis vaccination certificate (mandatory for entry)
- Ihram garments packed (men); modest dress confirmed (women)
- Haram-area hotel booked and linked to your Nusuk permit
- Transfer or Haramain train booked from Jeddah
The 4 days at a glance
| Day | Focus | Key rite |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Arrival and rest | Ihram entered at the miqat |
| 2 | Umrah | Tawaf, sa’i, halq/taqsir |
| 3 | Ziyarah to Jabal al-Nour | The Cave of Hira climb |
| 4 | Rest, second Umrah, farewell | Tawaf al-Wada |
Day 1: Arrival and rest
Fly into Jeddah (JED) and transfer to Mecca, about 1-1.5 hours by car or bus, or 30-45 minutes on the Haramain train. Enter ihram at or before the miqat if you haven’t already. Check into your hotel and rest; don’t attempt Umrah straight off a long flight if you can help it.
Day 2: Umrah
Perform the full Umrah sequence at the Masjid al-Haram: 7 circuits of tawaf, 7 passes of sa’i between Safa and Marwa, and halq or taqsir to close the ihram state. Drink from the Zamzam well. The rites themselves take a few hours; spend the rest of the day resting and praying at the Haram.
Day 3: Ziyarah to Jabal al-Nour
Climb Jabal al-Nour early, before the heat. The roughly 1,750-step path to the Cave of Hira, the site of the first revelation, takes 1-2 hours each way. Rest in the afternoon and return to the Haram for evening prayer.
Day 4: Rest, second Umrah, and farewell
Many pilgrims use a spare day to perform a second Umrah, since ihram can be re-entered from a nearby miqat point such as Masjid Aisha. Whether or not you repeat the rites, perform Tawaf al-Wada before checking out, then transfer to Jeddah for departure.
Costs for a 4 day trip
Budget $2,500-4,500 per person all-in for flights, an Umrah visa (about SAR 300 plus SAR 100-180 insurance), and a Haram-area hotel; leaner trips off-peak can come in under $2,000. For what actually happens inside the mosque day to day, see our guide to the Umrah rites .
One concrete tip: if you do a second Umrah on day 4, go early morning rather than evening. The Haram is measurably less crowded before the heat builds, and you’ll clear tawaf faster.
