5 days adds a slower museum-and-canal day to both day trips
This route keeps the 4-day itinerary’s free core, one aerospace day, Albi, and Carcassonne, then adds a fifth day built around the Canal du Midi towpath and Toulouse’s paid museums, a genuine change of pace after two straight day-trip days. Expect roughly 55-100 EUR a person per day. Daily tables below.
Book these before you go
- Both the Albi and Carcassonne trains, a day or two ahead in July and August through SNCF Connect
- A slot for Cite de l’Espace or the Let’s Visit Airbus tour , ID required for the Airbus tour
- A room ahead if your dates land on Piano aux Jacobins (September) or the Christmas market (late November-December)
Day 1: Place du Capitole, Saint-Sernin, and the Jacobins

Day 5: the Canal du Midi and Toulouse’s museums
Walk or cycle the free Canal du Midi towpath from the Port de l’Embouchure, then spend the afternoon at Musee des Augustins (free the first Sunday of the month, otherwise 5 EUR, 3 EUR reduced) or, for a quieter collection, Fondation Bemberg inside the Hotel d’Assezat (15 EUR, 13 EUR reduced). Lunch at Marche Victor Hugo, close enough to the canal to fold into the same walk. Finish across the river in Saint-Cyprien for a more local dinner scene.

Getting around on 5 days without overspending

If you’re tired after two straight day-trip days, Day 5’s canal walk and museum afternoon is deliberately the slowest day of the five, don’t rush it just because the rest of the trip has momentum.
