A Romantic Weekend in Tashkent
A romantic weekend in Tashkent is built from evenings. The city has a grand theatre, a tower with a skyline view, a mountain resort within a morning’s drive and tea houses for slow dinners. Here is a three-part plan, with prices in Uzbek som (UZS) where they are known.
Evening one: the theatre
The Alisher Navoi Opera and Ballet Theatre was built from 1940 to 1947 and is credited to the architect Alexey Shchusev. Tickets are sold through iTicket , and what is on varies by week, so choose a date once you see the programme.
Evening two: skyline and supper
Go up the Tashkent TV Tower in the late afternoon. The tower is 375 m high, the observation deck is at 97 m and a restaurant sits above it. The deck costs about 40,000 to 60,000 UZS and opens from about 10:00 until about 20:00. Reaching the restaurant costs more.
Afterwards, walk around Amir Temur Square. The Timur statue and the Tashkent Chimes clock towers are pleasant at dusk, and the State Museum of the History of the Temurids on the square reopened in April 2026 after renovation if you arrive earlier in the day. For dinner, choose a choyxona, a traditional tea house, for tea and plov.
Day or night in the mountains
Amirsoy resort is about 65 km from Tashkent. The gondolas climb to the 2,290 m mark, and in summer they run until about 19:00. Winter is the ski season, and then lift hours are shorter. A drive of 1.5 to 2 hours each way means an early start, and weather can change quickly at altitude, so pack a warm layer and check conditions on the day.
What to keep for daytime and quiet
Hazrati Imam Square, the Center of Islamic Civilization and the mosques are active places of worship, and the Courage Monument remembers the earthquake of 1966. They are worth visiting separately with covered shoulders and knees, but they are not places for romantic photographs.
