Beijing Zoo’s rebuilt Panda Pavilion
A brand-new 13,000 square meter Giant Panda House opened on 16 July 2026 for the zoo’s 120th anniversary: four indoor halls, five outdoor areas, and ten pandas in residence, including the celebrity panda Meng Lan. It’s now the zoo’s newest and best-reviewed facility rather than an also-ran next to older enclosures, and general zoo entry stays inexpensive against everything else on this list. Hands-on physics halls, space-exploration mockups and an IMAX dome make this genuinely interactive rather than a look-don’t-touch museum, and it costs far less than either Universal or a private tour of the same ground. It’s an easy pairing with an Olympic Green afternoon since both sit in the same part of the city.
The honest limit: the Forbidden City with young kids
The palace’s booking rules apply the same to a family as to anyone else, and its scale is a genuine challenge with young children in tow. A half-day covering the main halls, rather than the full circuit out to the Gate of Divine Prowess, is the honest recommendation, and it costs the same ticket either way.

If the budget only stretches to one big-ticket day, Universal Studios earns it; if it stretches to several smaller ones, the toboggan, the panda house and the science museum together cost less than a single Universal ticket and fill just as many hours.
