Family Friendly Munich: Rain Plan and Sun Plan
Pick your weather first, then pick your Munich activity. Families here do best with a rain plan and a sun plan, and both can be built around a couple of reliable stops.
The rain plan
The Deutsches Museum is open daily 9:00 to 17:00 and keeps children busy for hours. Adults pay €16, children 6 to 17 pay €9, under-6s are free and a family ticket is €33, per deutsches-museum.de . The Kinderreich section is aimed at ages 3 to 8. A renovation runs to 2028, so some halls are closed, and the museum site shows the current list.
BMW Welt is free to enter and has cars that children may sit in. The museum next door costs €17 for adults, €9 concession and €38 for a family, and takes card or mobile payment only.
The sun plan
Tierpark Hellabrunn is open daily 9:00 to 18:00 until 24 October, then 9:00 to 17:00 from 25 October 2026. From 1 October the price is €23 for adults and €9 for children aged 4 to 14, and hellabrunn.de has the latest tariff. You can cycle there along the Isar from the Deutsches Museum, passing the Flaucher gravel beaches.
At Nymphenburg, the park is free and a Venetian gondola sails the Grand Canal until the end of October, weather permitting. The palace is free for under-18s.
In the Englischer Garten, there is space to run and benches for a picnic. At the Eisbach, children can watch the experienced surfers from the bank. The channel is fast and the water is strictly not for playing in.
Film sets and lunch
Bavaria Filmstadt is open in its main season until 6 November, from 9:00 to 18:00, and you can climb inside the Das Boot submarine or ride the Falkor dragon. Look at bavaria-filmstadt.de for ticket prices before you go.
For lunch, a beer garden with self-service tables lets you bring your own food, and only the drinks come from the counter. A soft drink or water is available, and a pretzel costs €1.50 to €2.50. Carry some cash.
Transport for families
Children from 6 to 14 ride free on a Single-Tageskarte, which costs €10.10 for an adult in Zone M. Your own children travel free too, with up to three other children allowed. A separate Kindertageskarte costs €3.80. A Zone M single is €4.20 and a short Kurzstrecke trip is €2.10. See mvv-muenchen.de for the full tariff.
Shops are closed on Sundays, so stock up on snacks on Saturday.
If you want a family-friendly tour booked, you can look at Munich family activities on Viator . For all-ages plans beyond the city, the day trips guide lists the options.
Tip: book the Deutsches Museum for a weekday morning, and keep the zoo for the first dry day.
