Romantic Beirut: Sunsets, Dinners and Hotels
Advisory notice, October 2026. Washington tells its citizens not to travel to Lebanon because of armed conflict, terrorism, unrest, kidnapping, landmines and crime, and its capacity to assist citizens there is very limited. Britain’s FCDO warns against all travel to South Lebanon and Nabatiyeh, large parts of the Beqaa and Baalbek-Hermel, parts of Beirut’s southern suburbs, northern Akkar and the Palestinian refugee camps. Strikes may land without warning and airspace can shut at short notice. Look at the gov.uk travel advice and travel.state.gov before paying for any trip. Insurance can be void if you travel against FCDO advice.
A romantic trip to Beirut centres on food, the sea at dusk and an old neighbourhood to sleep in. There is no long list of couple attractions, and the advisory above argues for a short, flexible stay with refundable bookings. These are the places that are real and trading as of the latest checks.
Sunset on the Corniche
Walk the seafront toward Raouche and watch the light fall on the Pigeon Rocks, two limestone stacks just off the coast. The promenade is free and open all day. The rocks are for looking at: the water below is rough and there is nothing to dive or snorkel, though small boats through the arches are reported at unconfirmed prices.
Restaurants worth a booking
Em Sherif on Rue Victor Hugo in Achrafieh is open and appeared on a 2026 regional list of the best restaurants. Reserve ahead, and ask for the price when you do, since no range is confirmed. In Mar Mikhael, Tawlet by Souk el Tayeb on Armenia Street serves a home-cooking buffet from Monday to Saturday for roughly $28 per person according to secondary reports. Liza Beirut has no closure news but no 2026 confirmation either, and its address is given near the Doumani or Metropolitan Club area, so ring ahead.
Hotels
Hotel Albergo in Achrafieh and Arthaus Beirut in Gemmayzeh both turn up as trading in listings, though rates and room details are unconfirmed. Ask whether the hotel runs a generator, since the state grid supplies only a few hours of electricity a day, and read the cancellation terms. Rooms can be compared on Booking.com .
An afternoon of art
Pair the Corniche with the Sursock Museum in Achrafieh, a modern and contemporary art museum that reopened in May 2023 after repairs to blast damage. Its 2026 and 2027 exhibitions are on sursock.museum . The site has no visit page, so ask about hours and tickets directly.
Tips for couples
Many restaurants quote in US dollars and refuse notes that are torn or printed before 2013, and cards are unreliable, so bring crisp cash. Careem shows a fare before the ride begins, while street taxis need a price agreed in advance. For a swim, choose a private beach club, because Ramlet el-Baida has reported sewage outfalls and its water is best avoided.
