Romantic Getaways in Stavanger: Dinners and Dunes
Stavanger is a good choice for couples who like seafood, dramatic water and slow evenings. Prices are in Norwegian kroner (NOK). Book tables and boats well before travel, as popular slots fill early.
Island dinner on Sør-Hidle
Flor og Fjære puts guests on a private boat from Bekhuskaien for a crossing of around 20 minutes. On the island they join a guided walk through the gardens and then sit down to dinner. The full outing takes about five hours. In 2027 the season runs from 8 May to 18 September, and the site lists 1,990 NOK for Monday to Friday and 2,290 NOK for Saturday, covering the tour, meal and boat. Reservations are required.
Starred restaurants
RE-NAA, on Nordbøgata 8 and led by chef Sven Erik Renaa, is reported to have held three Michelin stars since 2024. Sabi Omakase and K2 are reported to hold one star each, and K2 also has a Green Star. These ratings come from secondary sources, so confirm them with the Michelin Guide before you choose, and reserve far in advance.
Out on the fjord
A 3 to 3.5 hour cruise with Rødne glides under Preikestolen on an electric catamaran for 890 NOK. The Rødne site shows current departures, and none were listed for November. A private-feeling alternative is a floating sauna booked through Damp, which operates at Svankevigå and Hinna. Advance booking is required, and the fjord is cold, so keep dips short.
Slow evenings in town
Gamle Stavanger’s white wooden houses are private homes, which makes a quiet evening stroll the right pace: stay on the lanes and keep your voices low. Afterwards, walk to Vågen, the inner harbour, or to Fargegaten, where small bars such as Hanekam fill the street in the evening.
Jæren sunsets
Solastranden is a long sandy beach close to the airport that looks west over the North Sea. Sola Strand Hotel has stood beside it since 1914. Stay on the sand rather than swimming, because the waves are strong and the water is cold.
A hike for two
An early Preikestolen walk is about 7.6 km return and takes 3 to 4 hours. Day parking is 275 NOK. The cliff top has no fence, so keep back from the edge and skip it in wind, rain or ice.
Check Stavanger hotels for rooms near the harbour.
