Stavanger Tours: Lysefjord Boats and Garden Island
Tours from Stavanger are mostly short boat trips and guided museum or street-art visits, and many only run in the warmer months. Prices are in Norwegian kroner (NOK).
Rødne cruise into Lysefjord
Rødne sails from Strandkaien, on the Vågen harbour front, for 3 to 3.5 hours into Lysefjord aboard a silent electric catamaran. The fare on its website is 890 NOK, with no separate child price shown. The route passes under the 604 metre face of Preikestolen and by the Hengjanefossen waterfall. Rødne says it runs trips from Stavanger all year, but check the schedule because the booking page showed no departures for November.
Two longer products are listed. A cruise plus Preikestolen hike day takes 8 to 9 hours and costs 1,415 NOK, and a winter version of that day costs 2,790 NOK. The Lauvvik to Lysebotn ferry takes about 2.5 hours each way, from 595 NOK, and runs seasonally.
RIB boat tours
Rigid inflatable boats leave from the same quay area and take about two hours. Fjord Events and Stavanger RIB are named operators, and one lists a May to September season. They suit people who want speed and spray rather than commentary. Prices change by season, so ask the operator.
Flor og Fjære, the garden island
On Sør-Hidle, a private garden island, a pre-booked visit combines a boat ride from Bekhuskaien, a garden tour and a dinner. The total time is about five hours. The 2027 dates are 8 May to 18 September, and the site lists 1,990 NOK on weekdays and 2,290 NOK on Saturdays. No Sunday or child price is published.
Museum Stavanger tours
A MUST day ticket costs 170 NOK for adults and gives same-day entry to every open museum in the group. Under 18s, students and conscripts enter free. The group includes IDDIS in Gamle Stavanger, the Maritime Museum, Stavanger Museum and Utstein Kloster. Stavanger Art Museum is scheduled to reopen on 14 November 2026. Details are on museumstavanger.no .
Street art
Stavanger has hosted the Nuart street art festival since 2001. Guided tours of the murals and a self-guided route are available, and Kolumbus has run curated street-art buses. Look at nuartfestival.no for tour dates, which change.
Tour tips
Take layers on any boat trip, because it is colder on the fjord than in town. Do not expect whales, as they are not watched in Lysefjord. Book the garden island and Rødne combinations ahead in summer.
