Lucerne in 6 Days: Town, Lake and Mountains
Six days adds the Stanserhorn CabriO, the world’s only open-top double-decker cable car, to the three-mountain lineup, plus a proper culture day. Budget roughly CHF 690-780 across the six days, hotel not included.

Day 1: Old Town on foot
Chapel Bridge and Water Tower, free, honestly a partial reconstruction after the 1993 fire. Musegg Wall towers, also free, then the Lion Monument, the sandstone memorial to the Swiss Guards killed in 1792.
Day 1 spend: roughly CHF 60-95. End the day mapping out which of the next four mountain and glacier days needs the clearest weather, and put that one first if the forecast lets you choose.
Day 2: Mount Pilatus
The Golden Round Trip, boat plus the world’s steepest cogwheel railway plus the Kriens cableway, runs roughly CHF 119.50-140 (verify), seasonal.
Day 2 spend: roughly CHF 160-200. End the day early, Rigi tomorrow starts with another cogwheel departure.
Day 3: Mount Rigi
Cogwheel from Vitznau or Arth-Goldau up “Queen of the Mountains,” Europe’s first mountain railway, opened 1871. A return runs roughly CHF 78 (verify), free with the Swiss Travel Pass.
Day 3 spend: roughly CHF 115-140. End the day resting your legs before tomorrow’s train to Engelberg.
Day 4: Titlis day trip
Train to Engelberg, then the cable car to the 3,020m glacier summit, roughly CHF 96 (verify). The rotating Rotair is closed 17 Aug-11 Dec 2026, replaced by the Titlis Connect cable car in that window (verify).
Day 4 spend: roughly CHF 135-165, plus the Engelberg train fare.
Day 5: Stanserhorn
A short train to Stans, then the historic funicular and the CabriO, the world’s only open-top double-decker cable car, up to the 1,900m summit for panoramic Alp and lake views. The CabriO return runs roughly CHF 90 and up (verify), seasonal, roughly mid-April to mid-November.
Day 5 spend: roughly CHF 130-160, plus the Stans train fare. End the day with an early dinner, since four mountain and glacier days back to back is a lot on the legs.
Day 6: Culture and the lake
Swiss Museum of Transport, CHF 37 adult (verify), or the Rosengart Collection, then a Lake Lucerne boat trip in the afternoon (check current SGV fares).
Day 6 spend: roughly CHF 100-130, plus the boat fare. Pack the evening before departure, since museum afternoons run later than expected.
