Phuket in 3 Days on a Budget
Three days is the 2-day plan plus one island day trip. Submit the free TDAC (Thailand Digital Arrival Card) within 72 hours of arrival before you fly, and base yourself in Kata, a good all-round first-timer beach with Karon and Patong both a short Grab ride away.
Day 1: Beach and Old Town
Morning and afternoon: settle in on Kata Beach, then Grab over to Phuket Old Town for the Sino-Portuguese shophouses along Thalang Road and Soi Romanee.
Dinner: Raya or One Chun, both long-running Old Town restaurants, or the Lard Yai Sunday walking street market if the dates line up. Cash covers the market; cards work at the sit-down spots.
Day 2: Phi Phi Islands and Maya Bay
Book ahead for this one; boats leave early from Rassada Pier, either speedboat (about an hour) or ferry (about two). Maya Bay reopened with permanent rules: boats land at Loh Samah Bay, you wade in knee-deep, visitor numbers are capped around 380 at a time, and entry runs about 400 THB. It closes annually from August 1 to September 30, so verify the current dates before booking a Phi Phi day tour . Snorkeling and lunch are usually built into the tour price; bring cash for extras.
Day 3: Big Buddha, Wat Chalong, and a Sunset
Morning: Big Buddha, the 45-meter marble statue on Nakkerd Hill, free with a donation box and a dress code. It has a real closure history, including a 2024 landslide on the access road, so check it’s open before you go.
Midday: Wat Chalong, Phuket’s largest temple, close by. Shoulders and knees covered, shoes off at both stops.
Evening: Promthep Cape for sunset, then an Old Town dinner to close out the trip, or Patong’s Bangla Road if you want a louder last night.
Watch the flags on any west-coast beach day: a red flag means no swimming, and monsoon-season (May to October) rip currents drown people most years, often on calm-looking days. If you’re on a scooter between any of this, wear a helmet, carry a valid license, and never hand over your passport as a deposit; that’s a known rental scam.

Add a second day trip, Phang Nga Bay, and this becomes the 4-day itinerary . Drop the island day and it collapses back to the 2-day plan .
