Santorini in 2 Days on a Budget (With Daily Costs)
Two days: Fira, Oia, and a caldera cruise, not the whole island
Two days is a real Santorini trip, just an honest, narrow one: Fira and Oia by KTEL bus, one caldera sunset cruise, and a coast-based room instead of a caldera-view splurge. It skips Akrotiri, Ancient Thera, and the wine region entirely, so treat this as the short version and check the 3-day plan if you can stretch the trip by even one more day.

Day 1: Land, base on the coast, see Fira and Oia
Fly into JTR or land at Athinios by ferry, then take a KTEL bus or transfer to a coast base in Kamari or Perissa for EUR 70 to 200 a night, well under Fira or Oia’s caldera-view rate. Bus into Fira (a couple of euros, cash only), walk the caldera-edge lanes, and take the cable car down to the Old Port for EUR 10 rather than the 588 steps or a mule; skip the mules, the animal-welfare issues on that route are well documented. In the afternoon, bus on to Oia to see the blue-domed churches and the walk down to Ammoudi Bay before the evening crowd builds. Eat in Fira or Kamari; a taverna meal runs EUR 15 to 25 a person.
Day 2: A caldera cruise, or the sunset done right
Spend the morning at your coast base or back in Fira, then take a caldera sunset catamaran cruise in the afternoon, roughly EUR 70 to 160 a person including a swim stop and food, covering the volcano and hot springs you’d otherwise need a separate boat tour to see. If you’d rather save the money, skip the cruise and watch the sunset from Imerovigli or Skaros Rock instead, free, and with a fraction of the crowd that packs Oia’s castle wall.
Is 2 days enough for Santorini?
It’s enough to see Fira, Oia, and one caldera sunset properly, but not enough for Akrotiri, Ancient Thera, or the wine region. Treat two days as a genuine short trip rather than a compressed version of a full island visit, and come back for the rest another time.
Should you sleep in Fira or on the coast for 2 days?
The coast. Kamari or Perissa run EUR 70 to 200 a night against EUR 300-plus in Fira or Oia during peak season, and the KTEL bus into Fira takes only a few minutes longer than walking from a caldera-view room to the same sights.
Book the cruise first if you want it; it’s the one piece of this itinerary that actually sells out in summer, and everything else on this plan can be decided the morning of.
