Santorini in 6 Days on a Budget (With Daily Costs)
Six days: the 5-day plan plus a beach day and Thirassia
Six days keeps the coast base, Fira and Oia, the caldera cruise, Akrotiri, Red Beach, Ancient Thera, the wine tasting, and the free caldera walk from the 5-day plan , then adds a sixth day split between a proper black-sand beach day and a short ferry hop to Thirassia, the small island across the caldera that most short trips never reach. Trim back to 2 , 3 , 4 , or 5 days if your trip runs shorter.

| Day 6 | Black-sand beach day, Thirassia by ferry | EUR 8 shuttle boat; ferry fare varies |
Day 1: Land, base on the coast, see Fira and Oia
Land at JTR or Athinios and settle into a coast base in Kamari or Perissa, EUR 70 to 200 a night. Bus into Fira, walk the caldera-edge lanes, take the cable car down to the Old Port for EUR 10, then bus on to Oia for the blue-domed churches and Ammoudi Bay before dinner.
Day 2: A caldera sunset cruise
A caldera sunset catamaran cruise, roughly EUR 70 to 160 a person, covers the Nea Kameni volcano and the Palea Kameni hot springs along with the sunset.
Day 3: Akrotiri and Red Beach
Morning at Akrotiri , EUR 20 flat, budgeting a half day. Afternoon at Red Beach if its cliffside path is open (check current access; it has a documented rockfall hazard), or Perissa and Kamari as the safer swim.
Day 4: Ancient Thera and a wine tasting
Morning at Ancient Thera, EUR 10 flat. Afternoon at a wine tasting in Pyrgos or Megalochori, a cellar-door flight running EUR 15 to 25.
Day 5: The Fira to Oia caldera walk and an Imerovigli sunset
Walk the roughly 10-kilometre caldera-rim path from Fira to Oia, 3 to 4 hours, free beyond water and decent shoes. Stop at Imerovigli or Skaros Rock for sunset instead of fighting the Oia castle crowd.
Day 6: A full beach day, then Thirassia
Spend the morning properly at Kamari or Perissa, the island’s black-sand resort beaches, rather than treating them as an afternoon add-on the way most itineraries do. The seasonal shuttle boat between the two runs about EUR 8 return. In the afternoon, take the short ferry from Athinios, or a small boat from Ammoudi Bay below Oia, across to Thirassia, the small island formed by the same eruption that created Santorini’s caldera. A simple lunch in the village of Manolas and caldera views from the opposite side make it one of the least-hyped, least-crowded day trips this island offers, and the crossing itself only takes 20 to 30 minutes.
Is Thirassia worth a full day on a 6-day trip?
A half day is enough: the village of Manolas and the caldera views from that side of the water are the whole appeal, and there’s little reason to stay past lunch unless you specifically want a slow, quiet afternoon away from Santorini’s crowds. Pairing it with a beach morning uses the day better than either alone.
Should the beach day come before or after Thirassia?
Beach in the morning, Thirassia in the afternoon works best logistically, since the ferry and small-boat crossings run more frequently earlier in the day and you’re not rushing back from an island hop to catch a beach’s last daylight hours.
Book the cruise and the Akrotiri ticket before you land; the beach day and the Thirassia crossing are both flexible enough to move to whichever day has the calmest water.
