3 Days Beyond Copenhagen's Center
The version of a Copenhagen multi-day trip worth planning is not more days in the city itself, it is three regional destinations that each need more than an afternoon: a Viking harbor, a castle strait, and a set of chalk cliffs most visitors never reach.
Day 1: Roskilde, in full
The 20-25 minute regional train from København H reaches the Viking Ship Museum, home to five authentic 11th-century Skuldelev vessels excavated from the fjord in 1962. The originals cannot be boarded, but shipwrights build sailable replicas at the adjoining working boatyard, and 50-minute fjord sailings run May through September for an extra 120 DKK on top of the 160 DKK summer admission. Roskilde Cathedral , a UNESCO site and the burial church of 40 Danish monarchs, adds 80 DKK. Spend the afternoon in the town’s medieval center before the short ride back. Day 2: Helsingør and Kronborg
Kystbanen trains reach Helsingør in 45-48 minutes. Kronborg Castle , the UNESCO fortress that inspired Shakespeare’s Hamlet, has a 62m ballroom, the largest in Northern Europe, plus royal tapestries and dark subterranean casemates; admission is 135 DKK online, 150 DKK at the door. Kronborg tickets with transfer from Copenhagen are also on GetYourGuide . The M/S Maritime Museum, built into a former 150m dry dock beside the castle, adds Danish seafaring history for 145 DKK. On the way back, stop in Hillerød for Frederiksborg Castle, Scandinavia’s largest Renaissance palace, admission 125 DKK, with free Baroque water gardens.
Day 3: Stevns Klint
Around 70km south of Copenhagen on the Stevns peninsula, reached via S-tog Line E to Køge, then a local train to Rødvig. Fifteen kilometers of 40m coastal cliffs hold the UNESCO-listed “fish clay” layer marking the asteroid impact linked to the dinosaur extinction 66 million years ago. Højerup Old Church sits on the cliff edge, its choir having collapsed into the sea in 1928; the visitor centre runs about 140 DKK. This is Zealand, not Møn: the chalk cliffs on Møn island, Møns Klint, are a separate site roughly 80km away.

A note on Bornholm
Bornholm is an ordinary Danish municipality, not an autonomous region, and there is no 2-hour ferry from Copenhagen; real routes run from Ystad in Sweden or take about 5.5 hours from Køge. It deserves its own multi-day trip rather than a fourth day tacked onto this one.
The verdict
These three days do not overlap and do not require doubling back through the city center, which is the main advantage over stringing together single-day trips at random.
