Brisbane Koalas, Bridge Climb and Clock Tower
Koalas, a bridge and a clock tower
Four attractions in Brisbane come with a ticket, a booking or a fixed sailing time. Here is what to know about each before you set a date. Figures are Australian dollars as quoted by the operators, and they can change.
Koalas at Lone Pine
- Where: 708 Jesmond Road, Fig Tree Pocket, in the western suburbs.
- Open: every day, 9:00 to 17:00.
- Cost: an adult day pass is $63. A child price is not confirmed, so check the sanctuary’s ticket page.
- Koala encounters: the sanctuary no longer lets visitors hold koalas, a change it made itself on 1 July 2024. Instead there are paid add-ons: Koala Moment, from about $35 to $39 per person, and Koala Close Up, from $39 per person, carer-led with limited sessions. You need a day pass as well.
- Other animals: kangaroos and wallabies can be hand-fed.
- Getting there: the sanctuary’s page lists route 430 from Ann Street and route 445 from Wickham Terrace. Brisbane changed its bus numbers in June 2025, so use the TransLink journey planner (13 12 30) to confirm. CityCats do not reach it.
Everything is listed on the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary website .
Cruising to the koalas
The Mirimar Koala and River Cruise leaves the Cultural Centre Pontoon on the Southbank Boardwalk at 9:00, with check-in from 8:45. The boat departs Lone Pine at 13:30 and gets back to South Bank at 14:45. Adults pay $138, children $80 and seniors $126, and the price includes Lone Pine entry. The whole outing takes around 5.5 to 5.75 hours with commentary. Booking is through the Australian Cruise Group . TransLink’s 50 cent fare does not apply on commercial boats like this one.
The Story Bridge Adventure Climb
The climb leaves from 5 Boundary Street at Howard Smith Wharves and reaches about 80 metres above the river. The operator sets a minimum age of 8 and a height of 110 cm, though resellers list other ages, so ask before you book a child. Adult day climbs are from about $150, with some promotions lower, and twilight and night sessions cost more.
Plan around the bridge’s resurfacing, which closes it to vehicles from 27 December 2026 to about 18 January 2027. Walkers can still use the eastern footpath, but the operator can tell you whether climbs run then. The operator’s site is the place to book.
City Hall Clock Tower
This free tour takes a cage lift up inside the tower for a look at the clock faces. Tickets must be reserved on Brisbane City Council’s online events pages, with one per person, children and carers included. The meeting point is the Museum of Brisbane on Level 3 of City Hall, 64 Adelaide Street, and tours run about every 15 minutes during the day. The Council booking page has the sessions.
