Bucharest for Couples: A Two-Night Plan
Bucharest for Couples: A Two-Night Plan
Two nights is the right length for Bucharest as a couple. The first evening sets the mood with music, and the second slows down with dinner. A day in between buys you either a spa or a train ride to the mountains. Prices are in lei (RON), at roughly 5.3 to the euro.
Night one: the Athenaeum
Start with a concert. The Romanian Athenaeum is a domed hall of 1888, 41 metres high, with a 75-metre fresco of Romanian history running around the walls. It is home to the George Enescu Philharmonic. Concert tickets start from about 30 lei, and the box office is open Tuesday to Friday 12:00 to 19:00. Dress up for the occasion. Afterwards, walk down Calea Victoriei under the street lamps.
Day two: choose a spa or a castle
The spa. The Palm and Elysium zones at Therme București, in Balotești, are adult-oriented, so you will not queue behind slides. Palm prices run roughly 102 to 187 lei for adults, Elysium 132 to 217 lei, by duration and by weekday or weekend. The Palm centres on a hall of real palm trees, and Elysium adds saunas and panoramic pools. Zones nest, so a higher tier includes the lower. Full details are at therme.ro . Weekdays are cheaper and quieter.
The castle. Alternatively, take the train to Sinaia, roughly 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 35, for Peleș Castle. Adults pay 100 lei, and the castle is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays and from 2 November to 1 December 2026. Tickets are timed and sold at bilete.peles.ro . If you want a day tour, browse Sinaia day trips .
Night two: the inn
Hanul lui Manuc, dating from 1808, is the oldest working inn in the city. Its wooden galleries look down on a cobbled courtyard, and the menu leans on grills and Romanian wines such as Fetească Neagră. Ask for a courtyard table when you book.
Small moments
A morning at Stavropoleos Church, built in 1724 with a carved porch and a courtyard, is free. The Cărturești Carusel bookshop, in a former bank, has spiral galleries that are lovely for browsing. For a gentle end to the afternoon, buy gelato on Calea Victoriei and walk to Cișmigiu Gardens, where rowing boats cross the lake in season.
Where to stay
Pick a hotel near the Old Town to walk to dinner. Check Bucharest hotels on Booking.com and read recent reviews. A metro ticket is 7 lei, and a 24-hour pass is 18 lei, listed on metrorex.ro . Book rides home through Bolt or Uber.
Verdict
If you can do only one thing, make it the Athenaeum evening. The inn and spa follow in value. For longer stays see the four-day plan , or the Bucharest overview . Tip: choose the concert date first, and fit dinner and the spa around it.
