Romania in 4 Days on a Budget (With Daily Costs)
Four days in Romania, priced day by day in RON Four days buys one full day in Bucharest and three days on a genuine Transylvania sampler: Brasov as your base, Bran and Peles castles as a single day trip, and Sighisoara’s walled citadel to close things out. That is a smart-sized bite of Transylvania, not a tour of the region and nowhere close to the whole country. Romania is a big, regionally varied EU member crossed by the Carpathian mountains, and even a full week only properly covers two or three of its regions.

Romania in 5 Days on a Budget (With Daily Costs)
Romania in 5 Days on a Budget (With Daily Costs) Five days buys a proper Transylvania loop, not a rushed taste of the whole country: Bucharest, a Peles Castle stopover, two nights in Brasov for Bran Castle, then Sighisoara’s walled citadel and Sibiu, connected by train and bus instead of a rental car. Romania prices everything in the leu, not the euro, and has been a full Schengen member since January 2025.

Romania in 6 Days on a Budget (With Daily Costs)
Six days in Romania: Transylvania in full, then the Danube Delta Six days buys a full Transylvania loop (Bucharest, Brasov, Bran and Peles castles, Sighisoara and Sibiu) plus one extra region tacked onto the end: a day trip into the Danube Delta, one of Europe’s largest wetlands. That is Transylvania covered properly, plus one further region, not the whole country. Romania is a large, regionally varied EU member split by the Carpathian mountains into at least five or six distinct areas, and even a full week only lets you cover two or three of them well, so treat this plan as a deep dive into two regions rather than a tour of everything.

Romania in 7 Days on a Budget (With Daily Costs)
Romania in 7 Days on a Budget (With Daily Costs) Seven days is enough to do Transylvania properly and still add one more region without rushing it, not attempt the whole country: Bucharest, a Peles Castle stopover, Brasov as your base for Bran, Sighisoara’s walled citadel and Sibiu’s old town, then two more days southeast to the Danube Delta. That is Romania’s week-plus sweet spot, and it still leaves Bukovina’s painted monasteries, Maramures and the Black Sea coast untouched.

Bucharest City on a Budget: 9 Cheap and Free Picks
Bucharest runs on RON, and it runs cheap Bucharest prices in the Romanian leu (RON), not the euro, even though Romania has been an EU member since 2007 and joined full Schengen, land borders included, on 1 January 2025. Budget roughly 4.55-4.6 RON to the US dollar and 5.2 RON to the euro through 2026, and check the day-of rate since the leu has moved a lot this decade. What that buys is a genuinely cheap capital: a big-ticket museum tour rarely clears 60 RON, a filling restaurant meal lands near 100 RON, and several of the best sights, Revolution Square, Cismigiu Gardens, the whole Old Town, cost nothing.

Bucharest on a Budget: 5 Cheap Castle Day Trips
Bucharest Puts Peles, Bran and Transylvania Within a Cheap Train Ride Bucharest is the arrival and departure city on this trip, not the destination. Land, spend a night or two, then ride the rails north into the Carpathians for Peles Castle at Sinaia, Bran Castle and the Saxon town of Brasov, and, with enough days, the medieval citadel at Sighisoara. Everything here prices out in the Romanian leu (RON), not euros, even though Romania is a full EU and Schengen member; figure roughly 4.

Bucharest to the Castles in 4 Days on a Budget
Four days: one night in Bucharest, one in Brasov, castles both middle days Four days is enough for the two castles that matter most, Peles and Bran, plus one overnight in Brasov so neither day feels like a sprint back to the train. This plan skips Sighisoara entirely; it sits too far past Brasov for anything under six days. Want more mountain time, the 6-day plan adds Sighisoara, or the full 7-day version.

Bucharest to the Castles in 6 Days on a Budget
Six days: Peles, Bran, and a proper overnight in Sighisoara Six days over the 4-day plan buys you the trip Bran and Brasov alone can’t give: an actual overnight in Sighisoara, a genuine medieval Saxon citadel a further 3.5-4 hours past Brasov, too far for any single-day add-on. Shorter on time, the 4-day version covers just Sinaia and Bran. The full 7-day plan adds a second Brasov stay to break up the return trip.

Bucharest to the Castles in 7 Days on a Budget
Seven days: the same castle spine, plus a second Brasov stop to break up the ride home A full week takes the 6-day plan and adds one thing it skips: a second night in Brasov on the way back, so the return from Sighisoara doesn’t turn into one brutal travel day. Shorter trips, the 6-day version does Sighisoara in a single long return, or the 4-day plan skips Sighisoara entirely. Full price detail lives in the Bucharest guide .
