Romantic Sibiu Evenings, Cellars and Lake Days
Romantic evenings in Sibiu
Sibiu is easy to turn into a romantic weekend because everything sits close together. A good day here has a slow afternoon, a climb at sunset, dinner in an old cellar and a late walk through quiet squares. This page puts those pieces in order.
Late afternoon: the cathedral tower
Go up the tower of the Evangelical Cathedral on Piața Huet, about 73 m high, an hour or so before sunset. The stair is steep and narrow, and the small ticket for church and tower is usually 5 to 15 RON. Hours change with the season, so check before you head up. The Council Tower is closed for restoration until about the end of 2027, which makes the cathedral tower the climb to choose.
Early evening: dinner
Crama Sibiul Vechi is a vaulted cellar on Strada Alexandru Papiu-Ilarian with most dishes around 45 RON, and reservations are a good idea. Restaurant Hermania sits in a historic former concert-hall building on Strada Filarmonicii and offers a Saxon and Transylvanian menu with trout, open from about 11:00 to 24:00. Look for the local sheep’s milk cheese, Telemea de Sibiu.
After dinner: a quiet walk
Stroll across the Bridge of Lies, the first cast-iron bridge in Romania. The market-women legend behind its name is only a story. Then walk down Strada Ocnei towards the Lower Town. The pastel houses by the Cibin are calm after dark. In winter, the Christmas Market in Piața Mare, from 13 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, stays open until 22:00 and charges no entry. Check the market’s page for the programme. Watch your step, because the cobbles are slick when wet or icy.
Where to stay
Noblesse Boutique Hotel on Strada Blănarilor is small, with about 10 rooms and no lift. Hotel Împăratul Romanilor on Strada Nicolae Bălcescu 4 occupies a historic building on the main street. Confirm rates directly with each hotel. You can also scan listings on Booking.com .
A summer day by the water
In summer, swap the tower for a lake day. The Ocna Sibiului salt lakes are about 15 to 20 km from the city and open from 22 May to 30 September in 2026. Adult entry is about 25 to 35 RON depending on the date. Lacul Binder offers SUP and kayak hire, a beach and cable ski, with lifeguards. It opened for the 2026 season on 1 May, Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 20:00. Swimming rules vary, so look at laculbinder.ro first.
Tips
Carry some RON for kiosks. Reserve dinner, as the cellar advises. Sibiu has very low violent crime, but keep an eye on bags in the Christmas Market crowds.
