Day Trips From Panama City, Mapped by Distance
Bocas del Toro and Boquete show up on a lot of Panama day-trip lists, but both are 7 or more hours from the capital by road, which pushes them into overnight territory. The trips below fit inside a single day, out and back from Panama City.
Taboga Island
The Taboga Express fast ferry departs Balboa Yacht Club on the Amador Causeway and crosses in 30 minutes, round trip $24.00 adult, $14.00 child or senior. The village is car-free: walk to the Church of San Pedro, founded in 1524, climb Cerro Vigía for the skyline view back to the city, and check the tide for the Playa Restinga sandbar, which only surfaces at low water. El Valle de Antón
2 to 2.5 hours west by car, or a direct minibus from Albrook Terminal for about $4.25 one way. Portobelo and Fort San Lorenzo

Transportation: A rental car gives the most flexibility for El Valle or Portobelo; Taboga and Gatún Lake trips run on fixed ferry and marina departure times instead.
Weather: Rain arrives most afternoons outside the December-April dry season, usually as a short, heavy downpour rather than an all-day soak.
