Dubrovnik Attractions by Season: When to Go
Dubrovnik Attractions, Month by Month
Dubrovnik changes character with the calendar. Some attractions run all year, some close for months, and the price of the headline ticket moves with the season.
Spring, March to May
The City Walls are open every day except 25 December, and the winter pricing period ends on 31 March. Oysters from Mali Ston are celebrated at a festival each March, a pleasant reason to cross the Pelješac Bridge, which is about an hour from the city. Lokrum is open by this point, and the island is at its greenest, with peacocks and the botanical garden.
Summer, June to August
This is the high season. The adult City Walls ticket is about €40 and includes Fort Lovrijenac, and the Walls shop is where to buy it. Walk the ramparts at opening, before cruise groups arrive. The city caps calls at two ships and about 5,000 passengers a day, yet the middle of the day is still crowded.
The Midsummer Scene stages one English-language Shakespeare play at Fort Lovrijenac each year from June to early July. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival follows from mid-July to late August with concerts and drama across the Old Town, and its programme is on dubrovnik-festival.hr .
The cable car runs late in summer, so sunset rides are easy. Sea kayaking, usually €35 to €55 per person, is popular on calm evenings. Compare kayak tours for current operators.
Autumn, September to November
Crowds thin and the sea stays warm. In early October the cable car opens at 09:00 and closes at 21:00, then closes at 20:00 from the 21st. In November it runs from 09:00 to 17:00. See the cable car timetable , where an adult return is €30.
Winter, December to February
The Walls drop to a winter rate of about €15 for adults, and the Western Outer Wall is closed from December to February. Lokrum closes from mid-December to early February. The cable car is shut in December and January to March.
The city still has plenty to do. Stradun is lit for the winter festival in December, with fritule doughnuts and mulled wine. On 3 February the city marks the Festivity of St Blaise, a UNESCO-listed celebration with processions down Stradun.
Attractions that suit any month
- Rector’s Palace, €15 for adults and €8 for students.
- The Franciscan cloister and old pharmacy from 1317, €6 for adults and €3 for children.
- A ten-museum ticket at €20 for adults, valid seven days, from dumus.hr .
Verdict
For routes on foot between these stops, the sightseeing page lays out a day by the clock.
Visit in late April or September to October if you can. Check the cable car and Lokrum calendars first, because both close for the winter.
