Grasse, Antibes, Nice: Cannes Day Trips by Rail
A car is not needed for day trips from Cannes. The station sits on the coastal line, and the destinations below are listed from nearest to farthest. Fares are single tickets in euros from the TER Sud route pages, and a Zou card lowers them.
At a glance
- Antibes: about 10 minutes, about €5, or €3.50 with a Zou card.
- Grasse: about 17 to 25 minutes, about €6.70, or €4.70 with a Zou card.
- Nice: about 35 minutes, about €9.70, or €6.80 with a Zou card.
- Monaco: about an hour by train.
- Lérins Islands: 15 to 20 minutes by ferry.
Antibes
The old town has a market and ramparts, and the Musée Picasso fills the Château Grimaldi on Place Mariéjol. The 2026 listings give €12 full price and €8 reduced, with a €15 pass for all municipal museums over seven days. The museum is closed on Mondays and on 1 January, 1 May, 1 November and 25 December. Opening is 10:00 to 13:00 and 14:00 to 18:00 from mid-September to mid-June and continuous in summer. The Marineland park in Antibes closed to the public in January 2025.
Grasse
The perfume capital lies inland. Fragonard’s historic factory at 20 Boulevard Fragonard offers a free guided tour, and a 45-minute paid workshop was listed at about €31. Molinard at 60 Boulevard Victor Hugo offers a free visit and a perfume workshop from about €76; sessions run at 11:00, 14:00 and 16:00. The TER Cannes to Grasse page shows the timetable. Grasse’s flower fields are around the town, not in Cannes.
Nice and Monaco
Nice and Monaco are bigger days. In Monaco the Prince’s Palace State Apartments are open in season, from late March to mid-October, at €13. The Musée Océanographique costs €22.50 printed and about €20.50 online, and the Changing of the Guard is at 11:55. Dress properly: Monaco fines swimwear and bare chests away from the beach.
Lérins Islands
Île Sainte-Marguerite has Fort Royal and woods; Île Saint-Honorat has a working abbey. The abbey’s boats are run only by Planaria, with a return fare of €19.50 for an adult online. Both islands ban smoking and open flames.
Massif de l’Esterel
Trains stop at Théoule-sur-Mer, Le Trayas and Agay on the way to this red volcanic coast. In summer the prefectures shut the massif on days of high fire risk, so check the prefecture’s access map that morning. In 2026 it was closed from 1 July and on further days into late August.
