Plan 3 to 5 Days in Tel Aviv With Day Trips
Check before you commit. A longer stay in Israel deserves a second look at official advice. Read your own government’s current travel advice when planning, and again in the week before you fly, because alerts, flight cancellations and airspace closures can come with little notice. The UK Israel travel advice is a good reference. Book flexible fares and rooms, and note the nearest shelter at each hotel.
Two or three days is enough for Tel Aviv itself, and beyond that the city works as a base for excursions. Prices are in shekels (₪), and Shabbat sets the rhythm: trains and standard buses stop from Friday afternoon to Saturday evening, and markets close on Saturday.
A three-day outline
| Day | Morning | Afternoon | Evening |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Rothschild Boulevard and Bauhaus streets | Carmel Market, then the Tayelet | Sunset in Old Jaffa |
| 2 | Tel Aviv Museum of Art from 10:00 | Neve Tzedek and Shabazi Street | Florentin street art |
| 3 | Fast train to Jerusalem, about 30 to 35 minutes | Old City and markets | Train back before Shabbat |
On a Saturday, swap the Jerusalem train for a museum day, since the Tel Aviv Museum of Art opens 10:00 to 18:00 and the Eretz Israel Museum 10:00 to 16:00. Both close on Sunday.
Extending to four or five days
Masada and the Dead Sea. Count on about two hours each way. Ein Bokek has a public beach, and you should float without putting your face in the water. Park and cable car prices vary by source, so check the booking page before you set off.
Akko and Haifa. The coastal train reaches Akko in around 75 minutes. Haifa adds the Bahá’í Gardens and the Shrine of the Báb.
Caesarea. A national park with Roman and Crusader ruins, around 45 km north. Reach it by car or by train to Binyamina plus a taxi.
A slow day. A surf morning at Hilton Beach in season, a pool visit at Gordon Pool at around ₪65, or a long lunch in Jaffa.
What shapes the budget
- Room rates climb during Pride Week in June and over the autumn Jewish holidays.
- Cards are accepted widely; public transport takes a Rav-Kav card or an app.
- From the airport, the train costs about ₪14 and a taxi is a flat ₪150. Details are on the municipal airport page .
- The official bathing season is May to October, with lifeguards from about 07:15 to 16:45.
Entry rule
Visa-exempt travellers need an ETA-IL before they fly, at about ₪25, valid for 2 years and for stays of up to 90 days.
