Romance in Sharm el-Sheikh: Resorts and Sunsets
Sharm el-Sheikh is a mass-market beach and all-inclusive destination. Romance here is resort-based, with reef and desert outings as extras, rather than a stroll through a historic old town. The UK FCDO rates the southern Sinai Red Sea resorts as generally low risk as of October 2026, and the Egypt travel advice lists the details.
Where to stay
Three named resorts are open today. Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh is at Sharks Bay in the north. Steigenberger Alcazar, which opened in 2017, faces Nabq Bay. Monte Carlo Sharm Resort and Spa is at Om El Seed and traded as the Ritz-Carlton before 2014. Spa and beachfront dinners are the main draw at resorts like these. Choose the bay first: Sharks Bay and Nabq Bay lie nearest the airport, while Naama Bay has the promenade, cafes and dive centres within a short taxi ride. Compare dates and prices on Booking.com .
Sunset on the water
Sunset boat trips depart from Naama Bay and from the marinas with licensed operators. Before booking, ask about duration, what is included and whether a safety briefing is given. Pay only the price agreed in writing.
Dinner in a Bedouin camp
Evening desert safaris often finish with Bedouin tea and a dinner under the night sky. Listings frequently bundle a quad ride, and quad accidents have been reported, so request a dinner-only option if you prefer a calm evening.
A reef day for two
For a special day, book a snorkelling trip or an introductory dive with a licensed centre. Camel Dive Club, Sinai Divers, Emperor Divers, Ocean College and Red Sea Diving College are listed on Wikivoyage . A boat to Ras Mohammed National Park or the Strait of Tiran reefs makes a good full day. The boats do not land on Tiran, which is Saudi territory. Egyptian law bans touching coral and feeding fish.
Four practical tips
- Sharks are rare but real: obey lifeguard flags and avoid swimming at dawn and dusk.
- Tap water is not drinkable.
- Taxis have no meters, so agree the fare first, and take extra care at night, especially when travelling alone.
- Arrival procedures: a free stamp covers stays under 15 days in the Sharm, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba resorts, and a visa on arrival is 30 US dollars in cash.
Prices for dinners and boat trips are often quoted in euros or dollars, while the Egyptian pound trades at about 48 to 50 to the dollar.
