Sharm el-Sheikh Sights: Museum, Mosque, Market
Sights in Sharm el-Sheikh are scattered along the resort coast, and a taxi links them in minutes. Settle the fare before you set off, because the cars are unmetered. As of October 2026 the FCDO rates the southern Sinai Red Sea resorts as generally low risk, and its advice for Egypt is the page to check. For sights beyond the resort strip, see day trips from Sharm el-Sheikh .
Sharm El Sheikh Museum
North of Naama Bay, the museum opened on 31 October 2020 with about 5,200 objects. Highlights are the Grand Hall of animal mummies, the Hall of Civilization (the coffins of Isetemheb and a Hatshepsut statue head) and a section on Sinai heritage. Tickets for foreign adults cost 200 EGP, students pay 100 EGP, and the audio tour is 50 EGP. Doors open from 10:00 to 13:00 and again from 17:00 to 23:00 daily, with shorter daytime hours in Ramadan. See the museum page for the latest details.
Two houses of worship
Al-Sahaba Mosque, in the Old Market district, ranks second in size among Sharm’s mosques after Al-Mostafa on Al Rewaysat Road, and its style is Ottoman-influenced. Outside prayer times visitors may enter, taking off shoes in the prayer areas and dressing modestly.
The Heavenly Cathedral (El-Samaeyeen Coptic Orthodox Cathedral) stands in Hay El Nour. Building finished in 2010, and painters spent around two years on the Bible-scene frescoes inside. Entry is free and opening hours vary by source, so ask locally.
Old Market
Sharm el-Maya’s Old Market is a souk of spice and perfume stalls with fish cafes. Prices are negotiable, and touts are best ignored unless you are buying. Count on about ten minutes by car between the market and Naama Bay.
Naama Bay and Soho Square
Naama Bay is the first of the tourist hubs, with a promenade around 1.3 km long that is lit at night. Soho Square sits in north Sharm near the airport. It has an ice rink, ten-pin bowling, an evening dancing-fountain show and the Culturama panoramic cinema show. Opening hours run from about 18:30 to 02:00, and each attraction charges its own fee.
Ras Mohammed viewpoints
Established in 1983 as Egypt’s first national park, Ras Mohammed covers around 480 square km and is on the UNESCO Tentative List (not inscribed). It lies 20 to 35 km from Sharm, depending on the gate. Boat tours show its reef walls best. Do not touch marine life or leave litter.
