Sharm el-Sheikh isn’t built around a headline ticketed festival the way some cities are, its calendar runs on Egypt’s national religious and seasonal dates, and almost all of them cost nothing to experience as a visitor. Below is what actually changes month to month, and what to expect if your trip lands on one of them.
Ramadan: the one date that reshapes daily rhythm
Ramadan is expected to run roughly 18 February to 19 March 2026 (verify, dates depend on lunar sighting). Outside resort hotels, daytime restaurant and café service thins out considerably since fasting Muslims avoid eating, drinking, and smoking in public during daylight; resort hotels themselves keep serving tourists largely as normal. The city gets genuinely livelier after sunset, when iftar meals and family gatherings spill into the evening, a good time to be out in the Old Market rather than in during the day.
Eid al-Fitr: the free celebration right after
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan with family gatherings, feasts, and gift-giving across the city; expect a livelier, more festive atmosphere in public areas for a few days, at no cost to a visitor beyond normal spending.
Sham El Nessim: Egypt’s spring celebration
A national spring holiday with picnics, kite flying, and outdoor gatherings, most visible in public parks and along the corniche rather than inside resort grounds. Free to witness, and a good excuse to be outdoors on the promenade rather than by the pool that day.
COP27 and Sharm’s convention-city side
Sharm el-Sheikh hosted the UN’s COP27 climate conference in November 2022, drawing roughly 33,000 delegates and heads of state, evidence of the city’s convention infrastructure more than a repeating tourist event. It isn’t an annual fixture for visitors to plan around, but it’s part of why the city has the hotel and conference capacity it does.
Is there a genuine Sharm food or music festival?
Not one independently confirmed as a recurring fixture at time of writing (verify before planning a trip around one); treat any advertised “festival” from a resort or tour operator as a one-off promotion rather than an established annual event, and check directly with your hotel concierge for current listings once you’ve booked.
Christmas and New Year’s Eve at the resorts
Christmas and New Year’s Eve bring festive decorations, special menus, and lively parties to many Sharm resorts, a Western-visitor-facing season rather than an Egyptian national holiday, and one of the pricier weeks to book a room given the demand from northern-European winter-sun travelers.
Finding what’s actually on during your dates
Check with your hotel concierge for what’s genuinely happening that week, since Sharm’s calendar leans on national religious dates that shift year to year rather than a fixed festival roster.
