Romantic Dubrovnik: Sea, Hill and Table
Romantic Dubrovnik in Three Settings
Dubrovnik lends itself to couples in three ways: from the water, from above and from a table. Pick one setting per evening and leave the rest of the day free.
From the water
A sunset kayak tour round the walls and across to Lokrum typically costs €35 to €55 per person, with operators setting their own prices and routes. Some tours stop to swim at Betina Cave, which can only be reached from the sea. Check sunset kayak options and choose a small group.
On land, the Buža bars sit on the rocks outside the southern walls, with drinks around €8 to €14. Some take cash only. Swim only in calm sea and use the ladders and steps to get in.
For a day apart, take an early boat to Lokrum. It costs €30 per adult including the return boat, and the reserve site lists the season. The island closes from mid-December to February. Gardens, peacocks and quiet paths are best before the day-trippers arrive.
From above
The cable car climbs Mount Srđ in four minutes. An adult return is €30 and a one-way is €17. Ride up for sunset and watch the walled city turn from gold to blue. Check hours on the official timetable , because the car is closed in December and from January to March.
From a table
The fine-dining pick is Restaurant 360, a one-star Michelin address reported in the 2026 Croatian guide, set on the fortress wall over the Old Port. Reserve ahead and read its current menu first.
A cheaper and more rustic option is a Dalmatian peka dinner for two. Lamb, veal or octopus is slow-cooked under an iron bell in embers. It costs about €50 to €85 and needs booking at least three hours ahead. In a traditional konoba, black risotto runs about €16 to €24.
Evenings with a stage
The Midsummer Scene presents one English-language Shakespeare play at Fort Lovrijenac each year, from June to early July. The Dubrovnik Summer Festival then fills the city from mid-July to late August with concerts and drama, with its programme on dubrovnik-festival.hr . In December, Stradun is hung with lights and the winter festival serves hot wine and fritule.
Early morning
Stradun at 06:30 is empty and quiet. Stroll to the Old Port and out along the Porporela pier for the first light, then find coffee in a side lane.
Manners
Wear a shirt and cover swimwear in the Old Town, because on-the-spot fines apply.
Verdict
For daytime strolls to pair with these evenings, see the guided walks page .
If you have one night, choose the cable car at dusk, then dinner. Book the table before you book anything else.
