Romantic Getaways from Dhaka for Couples
Travel advisory, checked October 2026. The UK Foreign Office advises against all but essential travel to the Chittagong Hill Tracts (Rangamati, Khagrachari, Bandarban), and the United States warns against travel there. UK advice says terrorist attacks are very likely and that hartals and demonstrations can turn violent quickly, so avoid them. Bag snatching from motorbikes and CNG autos has risen since 2024, so be careful with phones and jewellery. See the UK FCDO page and the US advisory before booking.
What romance looks like here
Dhaka is intense, crowded and noisy, and it does not suit candlelit sightseeing. Couples tend to enjoy it best by combining a comfortable hotel, one or two good meals and a weekend in the tea country. This page covers the few options that fit, and the ones to avoid.
Hotel dinners
The Westin Dhaka in Gulshan and InterContinental Dhaka on Minto Road are the best-known international hotels. The InterContinental opened in December 2018 in the former Ruposhi Bangla building. Amari Dhaka is also listed. A hotel buffet or tasting menu might cost 3,000 to 6,000 BDT per person, though prices change. Ask the hotel to arrange a car for the evening rather than hailing a street CNG. Compare rooms on Booking.com .
Dusk at Dhanmondi Lake
Rabindra Sarobar on Dhanmondi Lake is where families and couples stroll in the evening. You may find tea stalls and some live music. The water is not clean, so think of this as a short walk rather than a lakeside idyll. Go while it is light and leave before it is late.
Biryani for two
Haji Biryani, in business since 1939 on Kazi Alauddin Road, and Nanna Biryani make an informal Old Dhaka dinner. Look for the genuine signboard. Eat hot, freshly cooked dishes.
Sreemangal tea gardens
The best true getaway is by train. The Parabat or Upaban Express from Kamalapur reaches Sreemangal in 4.5 to 5 hours. Tea estates, forest walks and quiet mornings are the draw, and Grand Sultan Tea Resort and Golf is a listed resort in the area. Winter is the comfortable season. Check reviews and facilities before booking.
Not for couples
The Buriganga River at Sadarghat is polluted and crowded with large passenger launches, and past collisions have been fatal. Do not book a sunset boat or houseboat there.
